Predictable handling

Suitable for riding

Well finished

The previous time I a Royal Enfield Bullet was 10 ago. I remember it clearly as I up lying on a petrol station clutching my torn calf as I writhed in agony.

I’d tried to start the Indian-built Pommie a couple of times, and with failed attempt I just more frustrated, sinking the in (literally) harder and harder time. Eventually the Bullet bit and down I went – as though I’d shot in the leg.

Back then the venerable didn’t have electric or a unit construction gearbox, or or a front brake that any form of respectable retardation. How have changed.

The Bullet back to the ’30s, when the 500cc four-… single was by the Indian army. So popular was the on the sub-continent, a factory was built in – and the Bullet’s been produced non-stop since 1955.

Unfortunately what was acceptable at metres in the Indian mountains or unmade border tracks translate to what the rest of the wanted in a motorcycle. That four-speed gearbox was like your foot in a bucket of jelly and ball bearings.

history lesson is important for just how much better the C5 is. A of factory ownership in 1994 has investment in RD and quality control substantially, with the result a motorcycle that is now a viable steed – and one suitable for export

My re-introduction to the Bullet came via the (plus ORC) C5 Classic, a with a front disc, fuel-injection and electric start. 1930s meets 2010.

latest Bullet is a fun ride. learner-approved, will cruise on and has respectable handling that no nasty surprises. I can see it finding with ‘senior’ returnees to on two wheels who desire a LAMS they can keep.

The Classic C5 test bike a solo ‘tractor’ saddle, made luggage attachment However, a pillion pad and saddlebag is available.

The latest Enfield is no in the performance stakes, but all who rode the Classic C5 jumped off with a on their dial.

The Royal Bullet Classic C5 is well has more steel than and has a gearbox approaching Japanese It still looks pretty like the Bullet I rode 10 ago, but believe me, they are apart.

Check out for your of modern history.
