Getting a new and untested into an established market is but Sherco’s having a crack at it the impressive 450i Enduro. Ashenhurst reports

We didn’t know what to expect Sherco importer Don Murray rang and asked if we’d to ride his new 450i Enduro. has a terrific rep in trials bikes but no track record with bikes. What would thing be a dud or something to get excited How good could it be as the company’s attempt at an enduro bike, and how it cope in a market already with red hot models and plenty of to choose from?

It didn’t take long to out.

The 450i is at the pointy end of expansion into the trail/enduro and produced in a new factory in Nimes dedicated to this mission. The was developed by Josep Paxau, who the company’s two-… trials Paxau was guided by market that showed the new bike had to a broad customer base from hacks like us, to — and it had to be light, fast, and reliable.

One of the reasons for designing and the engine in-house was to was make it was custom-built for the 450i, a virtual had it been designed and put together by a party. Another reason for it in the family was to make future developments were accomplished easily. Sherco says it wanted to avoid excessive — it didn’t want a limited edition bike but one parts that could be produced.

What Mr Paxau ended up is a SOHC, fuel injected engine with an aluminium four valves, a six-speed box and as much flat-knacker grunt as of us little back ducks can

AJP brakes are to trials bikes, and few if any dirt but our short time on the bike them to be powerful and progressive.

The comprises an adjustable 46mm developed in a collaborative effort Paioli and Kayaba, and a Paioli with high and low speed adjustment as well as the capacity for preload and rebound. The setup is without being harsh, and the fork felt busy to us, it was a new bike and deserved more time before smart-arse can be made about that.

We reckon this bike is on the It’s slim, fast, easy to turn, marvellously balanced — that’s in the genes — and it looks straight forward to maintain. The complaint we had was that an 8.5 litre tank is too small for Australian as far as trail riders are concerned

Most 450s get around so you’d be lucky to reach the 100 kilometres before looking for a

Don Murray has set up a new company (Moto-Central Pty Ltd) with the resources and backing to expand into the market with this and others to follow. If Don gets his way the will sell for between and $12,900.

The bike we rode is for ADR testing and will be on display at the Motorcycle Show. If you want to more about Sherco in or the 450i in particular, log on to or Don Murray on 0262 480 229. also looking for good
