About This 2003 Suzuki Burgman

Suzuki’s New Burgman Super Scooter: The Ultimate in Technology Performance

Suzuki invented the hybrid super scooter back in 1998 with the launch of the innovative AN250 Burgman, a machine that took the best elements of both scooter and motorcycle.

Now Suzuki designers have taken an even bolder initiative to create the biggest, most powerful and most luxurious scooter ever produced; the Suzuki AN650 Burgman. This is a machine that utilises advanced technology to provide big bike performance within the concept of a conventional twist-and-go fully automatic scooter.

The Suzuki Burgman 650 is equipped with a sophisticated transmission system; the first of its type ever developed for a mass-produced two-wheeler. The Suzuki Electronically-controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (SECVT) offers three different modes of operation – Normal Automatic, Power Automatic and 5-speed Manual – activated by the use of a button conveniently located on the handlebar.

In Normal Mode the Burgman turns less engine rpm for leisurely and economical cruising. Switch to Power Mode and the engine rpm picks up, delivering more punch with every twist of the throttle. The Burgman also offers the unique option of switching to Manual Mode, allowing the rider to shift up and down through five pre-determined CVT ratios thus providing motorcycle-like control.

With the largest displacement engine in its class, the Burgman 650 offers both low and mid range cruising power, ideal for two-up touring. The 638cc, twin-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid cooled engine has dual counterbalancer shafts to minimise vibration. The Suzuki AN650 offers a top speed substantially above the legal limit and sufficient power for overtaking.

Its low centre of gravity means that the machine carries its weight well with excellent low-speed control for around town manoeuvrability.

Borrowing from the world of motorcycle technology, the Burgman has an advanced fuel injection system featuring a computerised engine management system (ECM). Fuel injection helps to lower emissions by providing efficient combustion and the 02 feedback system with catalyser, fitted to the new Suzuki, also helps to achieve a more efficient air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. Together, these systems are so effective that the emissions on the environmentally friendly Burgman fall well below planned EURO-2 requirements.

Back with the world of scooters, the Suzuki Burgman 650 has masses of storage space. The 56-litre underseat compartment has its own interior light and will easily accommodate two full-face helmets. Up front, three compartments underneath the handlebars keep small valuables and essentials close to hand.

The main compartment is lockable and contains a DC outlet, enabling the busy Burgman rider to recharge a mobile phone whilst on the move.

The digital car-like instrument panel has a large, easy to read LCD speedometer, rev counter, odometer, tripmeter, oil change indicator and oil level indicator with segmented water temperature meter, fuel level meter, clock and key indicator lights.

With passenger comfort better than most motorcycles and a large 15-litre fuel tank capacity, unique magnetic security lock and a range of optional accessories, this is one Big Brother worth watching!
