Intro

The 2004 Suzuki Katana was one of the last model years of the sport bike from Japanese automaker Suzuki. (It was discontinued in 2006.) For the 2004 model year, the Katana was split into two models: the Katana 600 and the Katana 750.

Each 2004 Suzuki Katana model is named after its engine displacement: 600 cubic centimeters (cc) on the Katana 600 and 750 cc on the Katana 750. The engine that powers the sport motorcycle is a horizontal inline four-cylinder engine with a total of 16 intake valves (four on each cylinder). The bore and stroke and compression ratio for the engine is 2.47 by 1.92 inches (62.6 by 48.7 millimeters) and 11.3 to 1 on the Katana 600, and 2.76 by 1.92 inches (70 by 48.7 mm) and 10.7 to 1 on the Katana 750.

The engine on the 2004 Suzuki Katana is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, and the rider can start the bike using an electric engine ignition. For fuel, each Katana comes with a 5.3-gallon (20-liter) gas tank.

Available as a blue or yellow bike, the 2004 Suzuki Katana is about 84.1 inches long and has a ground clearance of 4.7 inches (120 mm). The width, height, and wheelbase of the Katana 600 are 29.3 inches (755 mm), 47 inches (1195 mm), and 57.9 inches (1470 mm), respectively. For the Katana 750, the measurements are 29.9 inches (760 mm), 46.9 inches (1190 mm), and 57.7 inches (1465 mm).

Overall the Katana 750 is the heavier model, with a dry weight of 465 pounds (211 kilograms); the Katana 600 has a dry weight of 458 pounds (208 kg).

Suzuki used aluminum and steel to make the 2004 Suzuki Katana, thus making it relatively lightweight while retaining its sturdiness. A two-occupant seat goes on each bike: at a height of 30.9 inches (785 mm) on the Katana 600 and 31.1 inches (790 mm) on the Katana 750.

Receiving a sharp-edged, aerodynamic design, the 2004 Suzuki Katana has a standard spoiler, upper and lower fairing, and front and rear fenders, with a tinted windshield at the front. Digital instrumentation on the bike consists of a clock, trip odometer, speedometer, and fuel level warning gauge. Also included are a pair of side mirrors and a halogen headlight for increasing ease of vision when driving.

Each 2004 Suzuki Katana rides on 17-inch aluminum wheels. On each wheel is a hydraulic disc brake for enhanced stopping power: an 11.4-inch (290-mm) dual one at the front and a 9.5-inch (240-mm) disc at the back. The suspension on the 2004 Katana consists of a front 1.6-inch (41-mm) telescopic fork and rear twin-sided swing arm for a smoother ride.

Thanks to its great design, spirited engine, and above-average performance and comfort, the 2004 Suzuki Katana retained the overall high value of the nameplate’s previous iterations. Also, it offers a slightly upgraded model choice with the Katana 750.
