The 2009 Suzuki GSX line inherits the lineage of the venerable Suzuki Bandit, and Katana lines. The Suzuki Bandit was a popular naked style street motorcycle that had a bad boy reputation for laying down rubber on the roads. While the Suzuki GSX1250FA comes with full fairing, making it closer to a sport touring bike than a naked streetfighter, its performance is comparable to the original Bandit.

The 2009 Suzuki GSX650F occupies the same market slot once taken by the Katana, and is also a fully faired motorcycle. In fact, in some markets, Suzuki revived the Katana moniker for the GSX650F. Both models offer solid performing inline four-cylinder engines.

Overall, the Suzuki GSX line are sport touring motorcycles that merge performance and touring into one complete package.

The styling is clearly inspired by Suzuki’s highly successful GSX-R line. The aggressive nose, headlight style, and tall windshield are similar to those found on the GSX-R line. The gas tank and exhaust are reminiscent of more recent Katana models.

The fairing on the Suzuki GSX models is not just for aesthetics, but also provides additional wind protection. Overall, the 2009 Suzuki GSX models are potent looking motorcycles that project plenty of street competence.

The 2009 Suzuki GSX650F is an affordable sport bike that targets the skilled beginner rider, or an experienced rider who is not looking to break a speed record (or to lose their license). A 656cc inline four-cylinder powers the GSX650F with 85 horsepower, and 45.6 ft. lbs of torque. This is more than enough power for the novice rider, and plenty for experienced riders to enjoy both street and freeway riding.

The Suzuki GSX1250FA continues the Bandit tradition of offering high performance. The 1254cc horizontal inline four-cylinder engine generates 96.5 horsepower at 7,500 rpms, with 79.7 ft. lbs of torque at 3,500 rpms. This makes for a smooth power curve with a lot of low-end torque being available off the line, and ample horsepower available as the bike revs higher.

This power translates into 2.9 second zero to 60 speed, with the Suzuki GSX1250FA able to run the quarter mile in 11.38 seconds at 121 mph. Perhaps more important is that this engine is tuned for everyday riding, with excellent low-end torque, and a smooth acceleration curve.

The Suzuki GSX models base their chassis on a tubular steel frame. Suspension is provided by telescopic forks adjustable for preload up front, and a link type suspension in the rear, which is adjustable for preload and rebound. With stock sport touring tires on 17-inch wheels, and upright touring style handlebars, both Suzuki GSX models handle well on city streets.

While they are more than capable of taking you on an enjoyable ride through windy mountain roads, they don’t have the side-to-side handling efficiency of their top handling sibling, the Suzuki GSX-R line. Both models use dual disc brakes on the front wheel, with a single disc on the rear wheel. For additional braking prowess, the 2009 Suzuki GSX1250FA comes with a standard anti-lock braking system (ABS).

Ergonomics on the Suzuki GSX bikes is good, especially for taller riders. By incorporating sport touring elements into the line, Suzuki achieves high performance, without sacrificing comfort. The handlebar and seat positioning results in a riding position that reduces the pressure on the rider’s wrists, making it suitable for longer rides.

If you are looking for a sport touring bike that has solid performance and won’t break the bank, the 2009 Suzuki GSX line was designed just for you.

New For 2009

Suzuki released a limited edition Bandit GSX1250SA Z, which featured a pearl white paint scheme, revised graphics and metallic silver wheels.
