Suzuki GSX-R 1000 25th Anniversary Limited Edition

2013 Suzuki GSXR 1000 Limited

Suzuki is celebrating one million GSX-Rs with a commemorative edition of the GSX-R1000.  The series has long been a flagship of the brand and a favorite of professional riders.  For its 10-year existence, the GSX-R1000 has won multiple championships with its cutting-edge technology, design and engineering.

Suzuki will only produce 1,985 commemorative editions worldwide, and the bike will undoubtedly deliver on performance and power.

Unique Design Aspects

As a commemorative edition, the model will feature a brand-new color scheme reflecting its race heritage, decals on wheels, special anniversary decals and a matching seat cowl.  The bike will feature a unique pin stripe design on the wheels, black brembo brake calipers with red lettering, red colored rear suspension spring and front fork caps, and a gold-colored front fork outer tube.  The special edition will also feature commemorative graphics celebrating the first GSX-R produced in 1985.

Although Suzuki clearly spent a lot of time considering the style and design on the bike, don’t think that they skimped on performance.  Key features include the following:

A 999cc four-cylinder engine

Lightweight and durable forged pistons designed with the Finite Element Method and fatigue analysis technology

12-hole fuel injectors produce a fine fuel mist for more complete combustion, reducing fuel consumption and exhaust emissions

Six-speed close-ratio transmission

Race proven back torque limiting clutch that aids with smoother downshifting

Lightweight and compact twin-spar frame made of five cast sections

Compact engine allows for a longer swingarm and shorter overall wheelbase for improved racetrack performance.

Electronically controlled steering damper contributes to handling stability

LCD speedometer that includes odometer, dual trip meters, clock, gear position indicator, lap timer/stopwatch, and reserve trip meter

Adjustable footpegs

High-grip leather seat features

Putting It Together:  Chassis Features

The Suzuki limited edition features lightweight, fully adjustable 43mm Big Piston Front forks, rear shock absorber features, adjustable rebound damping, spring preload and both high-speed and low-speed compression damping.  Front disc brakes are equipped with top-of-the-line radial mount Brembo monobloc calipers, which offer a compact design and lead to a reduction of unsprung weight.

Engine Power

A 999cc four-cylinder engine and an enhanced throttle response gives this limited edition Suzuki promise of performance.  Pentagonal shaped ventilation holes in the side of each cylinder bore reduce pumping loss and further improve throttle response.  The 4-2-1 exhaust system with Suzuki Exhaust Tuning (SET) valve maximizes torque and improves the throttle response, especially in the low-to-mid RPM range.

Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) plated cylinders integrated into the upper crankcase helps reduce friction, improve heat transfer, increase durability and provide better ring seal.

Prices and Inventory

The 2013 Suzuki GSX-R1000 “One Millionth” Special Edition model will be sold in limited quantities (only 1985 units).  There’s currently no word on pricing or whether this special edition will make it to North America, although Suzuki has sold many of their motorcycles here before.
