1924 350 Raleigh- converted in for trialling.

1930 REX sidecar- to drive both bike by Einar Stormark.

1937 FN solo converted by Stormark.

Rokon (still in production)- The is a small 2WD motorcycle with no and a top speed of around 60 kph. have big chunky tyres and been powered by a multitude of 2 … motors and recently by 4 A shaft runs up the backbone a bevel drive gearbox in the head and chain down to the wheel.

We have recently contacted by the founder of the ROKON Mr.Orla Larsen — he the inventor of this innovative 2WD but was the to market the vehicle through a dealer network. He worked on a drive for the ROKON but it never into production.

It seems that the ROKON was the to use the one way clutch idea to drive the wheel that has now become issue on chain drive

1980 SWM trials bike- cable drive to the front.

c. DR 250 Suzuki- with hydraulic wheel drive developed for the army (still chain to not carried through to production. to have 5 % of power to front standard front forks

1987 Suzuki NUDA- bike (A shaft drive 2WD road bike) is shown at the motor show. An earlier 2WD, the Falcorustyco featured hydraulic drive and hydraulic but none of these features yet gone into production.

XR 250- at Honda ‘Ideas also with hydraulic drive and chain rear. front forks also Hose sizes indicate low power to front.

Note- Honda are reputed to built a 2WS based on a 400 more it was used to test 100+ mph

1988 Sunshine 2WD- standard front forks and 4 driving the front through a action linkage. Yamaha and versions built.

1989 hub steer Yamaha 600 raced in A bit simpler than the Sunshine in it had ‘only’ 3 chains driving the wheel. Race results very good.

Savard had built Kawaski and Husqvarna

1990 Dryvtech 2x2x2- hydraulic / hydrostatic drive to wheels.

1991 Damian used small Suzuki and a very unusual fabricated front end. 3 chains to drive.

1991 Suzuki- get publicity on 2 2 wheel drive models. The using multiple chain to the front with leading forks and the XF-5 using a spline’ and a series of right drives with telescopic forks. (And 3 chains as to the front drive !) Neither seems to have been outside Japan.

1992 305- trials bike using 5 chains to the front (std. forks) — weight increase was only 7 kg. See here.

1993 Xereb Honda hill climber in Australia using front modified to pivot at the top triple like the BMW ‘Telever’ system hadn’t been released A ‘radius’ arm running from the sprocket the top of the fork slider the fore / aft fork movement. 2 chains are used to drive the — although this removing the magneto and shortening the Very neat design.

1998 Ohlins 2WD enduro- on a Yamaha 250 motocrosser and uses a hydraulic motor (thought to be type motor) tucked in behind the right hand leg driving the front wheel via an ring gear with a that appears to be about

From the hose sizes and of the hydraulic motor it is safe to that the amount of power to the wheel would be less 10 % of that to the rear ( still by drive ). I don’t think this sort of power is enough to alter the handling of the — either for the better or for the I believe up to 60 % of the power must be to the front wheel ( but not all the time ) to the sort of handling that a 4WD car enjoys.

5 to 10 % of the power to the front will feel vague — here nor there — not 1 drive and not really 2 wheel The other point is that 2WD really needs to be hub steer as — Sam Xereb’s CR 500 2WD made clear — although his is good in that the ‘stay attaches half way up the front — thus limiting the the forks extend under

2000 Mekhalian R001- is an interesting project in that it a new angle on 2WD bikes — it is (by the description) literally half a 4WD Chains run down the left side in arms fixed to the — both wheels are by short shafts with in a similar way to a FWD or 4WD car. It uses a GS1000 motor — it is how the torque is split between the 2
