Industry Insight: Monster Gemma Lee Farrell

Section: Insight Post: Simon gets an Industry with Monster Energy’s Lee Farrell.

She’s one of the hottest Energy girls gracing the at every round of the Monster AMA Supercross Championship, but there’s a lot to the stunning Gemma Lee Farrell meets the eye.

We caught up the New Zealand-born 24-year-old while she in one-horse town of Pirongia to about her transformation from a Kiwi girl into one of the recognisable girls in action-sports, with Dirt Shark and Windham, being crowned Monster Energy Cup, her on the 2013 AMA Supercross season, and why she gets hit on at the bar.

First up, how on earth did you go from growing up in this tiny black-block New town to becoming one of the most women in action sports?

I grew up here in Pirongia, but I to the Gold Coast with my when I was 16. There I did a shoot for magazine and that started my name out there. I started my family so I moved back and got a job in the parole office at a …, but I had to as too many inmates had my poster on wall and it got a bit creepy! (laughs).

I moved back to Australia and a cover with FHM, I won a Playboy competition and they me to the US and did a non-… shoot with While I was there I won another at the Palms Casino in Vegas and made me the face of the Playboy there until it closed a few months ago.

I loved the US so I decided to move to Los Angeles in I signed a contract with Lingerie, who I’m still with, and up work with Monster at the Street League skateboarding with the likes of Rob Dyrdek.

that was going on I got hired to for Monster at the supercross, then I won the Monster Energy cup contest in and it’s all unravelled!

Wow that’s a quick ride to the Have you always been in supercross and skateboarding, or is it something you fell into?

It’s because when I first supercross I didn’t know about it. I didn’t know any or anything, but now I know a lot of the racers, as Chad Reed and Ryan

Dirt Shark has helped out a And now that I know the riders it the races so much more you want them all to do really and not crash.

But yeah, it’s so fun to be a part of this industry. The at a supercross is amazing and I’ve a tonne of great friends. definitely not somewhere I want to end my but it’s been a rood so far and I hope it lasts a bit longer.

So let’s talk supercross. is already shaping up to be an epic Are you looking forward to another 17 on the road?

I’m looking forward to it soo With so many riders into the season fit and healthy going to be amazing to watch and I the racing will be better ever. At the moment I’m waiting for my card to be processed and I had to miss A1 of it.

I’m hoping to be able to be back for this weekend though, the timing could be tight.

crossed it all comes together! your favourite rider?

Villopoto is a winner, man. unstoppable. When he cleaned up the Monster Cup he was on a different level and he’d just got married, so his would’ve been pumped

Last year he was amazing and I think he’ll bring it this year. I’ll be going for [Dean] Wilson and Reed.

Gemma is a Ryan Villopoto but also cheers on Dean and our very own Chad Reed.

so involved in the action-sports industry and most of your life it up in hotels and clubs, you would’ve some pretty epic yeah?

Ohhh yeah I have some really friends like Dirt When we’re away we’re just crazy and of each other so much.

If he drink I won’t either, but if he we just go wild.

The best I’ve ever attended was Party In the Pastures out at Kevin house in Louisiana. It was for charity and sponsored it, and it was just crazy. were hillbillies running with missing teeth, and so much alcohol.

Me and Dirt always reminisce on it as the best we’ve ever had, because it was so random.

If you ask any of the Monster who parties the hardest, I can guarantee all say I do. I take full advantage of hospitality [laughs]!

Hey, why not, right? So me, when you’re out partying at the do you get hit on much by random dudes?

I to God that if you ask any of the girls about they’ll all say we don’t get hit on that I guess nobody ever they have a chance and intimidated by us, which is weird. heard a fair few cheesy lines, but it’s rare for a guy to a serious attempt to pick me up.

So, mentioned Dirt Shark a few now. We heard you’re him out with his new website as well?

Monster has helped Dirt launch Basically going to be the TMZ of motocross and I’m going to after the Sharklet section. I’m excited about it and I think needs more edgy like this.

A lot of the sport and portray the clean-cut image. but I it needs to get balanced out with things like Dirt

Sounds good. Finally, you earlier you didn’t want to up in sports. What are your goals?

This year I’d to branch out some more acting and opening a business in LA, but I’m not what direction to take that yet. I’ll be sticking by my Monster family and I I’ll always be involved them somehow.

Great Thanks for the chat, Gemma. See you at the

Sounds great. Thank
