Suzuki MotoGP

Suzuki is the official factory-backed team of in the MotoGP World Championship. The were competing under the Rizla Suzuki MotoGP . [ 1 ] withdrew from competition at the end of the MotoGP season. [ 2 ] However, in 2013, Suzuki announced will end their hiatus and to MotoGP with a factory in 2015. [ 3 ]

History [ edit ]

first entered a works in the 500cc Grand Prix Championship in 1974 with Barry Sheene and Jack riding the Suzuki RG500. [ 4 ] A finish by Sheene in the opening was the best result of the season. The first victory came in a pole-to-finish win by Barry Sheene at the TT. Sheene finished the season 6th with two wins.

Barry Sheene won the rider’s in 1976 with a total of wins. [ 4 ] Sheene’s second rider’s championship came in with six wins. Team Steve Parrish was fifth.

In with two wins on the new Suzuki Sheene finished second in the behind Yamaha rider Roberts. Team mate Wil was fourth overall, also won two The 1979 championship was again won by with Virginio Ferrari second, Barry Sheene and Wil Hartog fourth, all riding the new RGB. [ 4 ]

With a total of six wins, was ranked fourth for the 1989 [ 5 ] In 1990 he was second overall five wins while Niall Mackenzie was 4th. [ 6 ] five wins ranked third overall in 1991. Chandler became Schwantz’s for 1992 during which enjoyed one win to finish the season followed by Chandler’s fifth overall.

Schwantz won his long-awaited first Championship in 1993 with race wins. His new team-mate Barros also scored a win and 6th overall. [ 6 ]

In 1994. Schwantz was 4th with two wins whilst was 8th. [ 6 ] Early in the 1995 Schwantz decided to retire motorcycle competition. The other rider Daryl Beattie the season second with two wins. [ 6 ]

Scott Russell Beattie in 1996. Russell the season 6th while Beattie serious injuries pre-season and did not his previous form. He finished [ 6 ] Beattie was joined by Anthony in 1997.

Beattie finished the 11th and Gobert 15th. A finish by Beattie was the team’s result that season.

entered an all Japanese riders in 1998 with Nobuatsu and Katsuaki Fujiwara. Fujiwara was injured during pre-season and Aoki contested the world alone. He finished 9th for the season a best result of 4th place.

Suzuki GSV-R

New rider Kenny Roberts, Jr. Aoki in 1999. Roberts Jr. Suzuki’s first win in the four since 1995. His four gave him second place in the Aoki was 13th. [ 6 ] Roberts World Champion in 2000 a total of four victories, [ 7 ] was 10th overall. [ 6 ]

In 2001 Gibernau joined Roberts the Suzuki RGV500. Gibernau ninth overall and Roberts [ 8 ]

John Hopkins joined in 2003. Hopkins came at the Spanish Grand Prix. Roberts missed three due to a crash in the Italian Grand and finished the season 19th two behind Hopkins in 17th [ 8 ] The rider line-up remained the for 2004 while Bridgestone Michelin as the team’s tyre [ 9 ] Hopkins finished the season with Roberts Jr. again two behind in 18th. [ 8 ]

Once the rider line-up remained the for 2005. Roberts took a place podium-finish in the wet British Prix but finished the season Hopkins finished 14th for the

Chris Vermeulen joined in 2006. [ 10 ] Hopkins finished the 10th while Vermeulen 11th with a 2nd place at the 2006 Australian Grand .

Both riders stayed the team in 2007 and raced the new Suzuki GSV-R. Vermeulen Suzuki ‘s first win the advent of four-… regulations and the season 6th overall. Hopkins 4th with four podium
