Salman Khan now posseses a limited-edition Suzuki GSX-R1000Z

Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who is the brand ambassador for Suzuki Motorcycle India Limited (SMIL) acquired a special edition blue and white Suzuki GSX-R1000Z on the occasion of the launch of ‘Suzuki Biking Lords’ – an exclusive superbike club by Suzuki Motorcycle India Limited (SMIL).The Special edition bike was produced to celebrate the occasion of Suzuki rolling out its 1 millionth GSX-R from its production line. The special edition bike will be limited to 1,985 units only and also 1985 was the year when the GSX-R series was introduced and it completely redefined the definition of a sport bike. The GSX-R1000Z sports a dual-tone shade of blue-white along with special anniversary decals.

This special edition GSX-R1000Z is a collector’s item is one of only a very few made by Suzuki. It boasts a 999cc, 4-stroke, inline 4-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine mated with a six-speed gearbox. The engine churns out peak power of 191bhp at 12000rpm.

It has a fuel tank capacity of 17.5 litres and weighs 203 kg. The limited edition edition GSX-R1000Z sports a high-grip leather seat ,adjustable footpegs, new instrument cluster with LCD speedometer and silver-ringed analog tachometer.

In 2001 K1 and K2 models of the GSX-R models were introduced. The K1 and K2 models had Titanium used for the exhaust down pipe, the K1 model’s link pipe is black and K2 model’s link pipe is polished titanium. With the 2001 model of the GSX-R1000, the 1998 Yamaha YZF-R1 was surpassed with the GSX-R1000 being lighter and more powerful.

In 2003 K3 and K4 models were introduced with changes in weight and power of the bike and in 2005 K5 and K6 models of the GSX-R were introduced with a redesigned chassis. In the year 2007 K7 and K8 updated models were revealed at the Paris motor show. Though the bike gained 6.4 Kg of weight over the 2006 model. To counter this weight issue. Suzuki claimed improved aerodynamics along with a faster revving engine and larger throttle body with increased power to 168bhp at 11,500 rpm.

It also featured three different engine mapping configurations, selectable via two buttons located on the right side of the handlebar. Mode A(unrestricted), Mode B(reduced power until 50% throttle is applied) and Mode C (reduced power throughout the rpm regardless of the throttle application). This models also received a hydraulic clutch.

Speaking at the occasion, Salman Khan said, “Suzuki superbikes have always been about technology that translates into power, performance, ride quality and handling. This exclusive GSX-R1000Z is a jewel in Suzuki’s crown of super bikes. It’s a biker’s privilege to own one.

The engineer’s skill translates into the rider’s thrill. I look forward to many long rides on this bike and experiencing the feeling of freedom and joy that biking always brings.”

Salman Khan himself is a motorcycle enthusiast and this is his third bike from the Suzuki’s stable. He already owns the Hayabusa and the Intruder M1800 cruiser and with this Special edition GSX-R1000Z, he is the only individual to own this bike in India. The limited edition bike boasts a special key fob and a serial number plate attached on the upper front fork bracket.

Ms. Anu Anamika, the National Head of Marketing at Suzuki Motorcycle India Ltd. Commented on the occasion saying, “Salman’s passion for biking is well known. He has a fine collection of Suzuki superbikes. We are proud that another exquisite Suzuki masterpiece has made its way to Salman’s enviable collection of bikes.”
