And then there was GSX Saturday

Picked up my new machine today, totally impressed. Smooth, taut, grunty, all those the magazines pick when the they have just hits the spot.

I didn’t go too only from the shop to about 12 miles. The roads pretty greasy, and I found I had problems reaching the back pedal due to my gammy leg. So were needed there, but should be in hand this (heel operated brake on the

The only negative apart the rear brake were the After riding a cruiser tiller style bars, the GSX seemed incredibly narrow, and and virtually no view behind for what was on the pavement either of the road. After I’ve had the mod, I will look for a of mirror adapters to see if I can extend the an inch or so.

With the speeds machine is capable of, I would some warning of the boys in being behind me.

Parked up in garage, invited mate from next door to him droolingly jealous.

Day Two 20/1/02

Woke up to cloudy wet roads but rain had ceased. the usual Sunday perfuntories, visit mum-in-law, etc’, it was to take the beast for a roam. made up a seat pad as a temporary to help me reach the rear pedal. The idea being if my was a bit further away from the I could get the flexation in my knee to the brake.

On the road this worked to a but it was tippytoe time every I came to a stop.

The roads still a bit wet and greasy, but my confidence the tyres grew, although I scratching. The brakes are excellent, but bags of feel, the suspension but supple soaking up the bumps far than my VN800 ever Sticking to the 4,500 rev limit, the was nothing short of fantastic, at a shade over 3,000rpm, same as my Nissan Primera), and at about 600rpm more.

The problem I had was that the pad I was using to myself didn’t really enough with the back plus it had the effect of lifting me the airstream at 70mph+, so it seems wasn’t too much of a good

The motor was silky, quiet, and to show me how much potential was once she was run-in, I can’t for the first service. 45 more completed.

More to follow plus I’ve got to get the camera and start clicking.

We brakes Saturday 26/01/02

brake now sorted, see Disability page. Great job done by Trikes, Bolton very and looks like it was done at the My ride home was excellent, my heel to brake will a little training, hopefully I encounter any full blown until it becomes instinct to use my to brake.

The mod has meant that I will a bit of ground clearance, but I’m not a one broken leg was enough. If it becomes a no doubt Boom will be to help out. The left peg has left alone, so I ride my right foot in front of my sounds a bit odd, but feels OK

added photos of the mods to my Mods page, plus pics of my beastie to my Photos

Take a look at the photos added, I’ll add a write up on it at after I’ve had chance to it on the road, hopefully it should high speed cruising of a neck wrenching exercise, we see.

I’ve also a pair of mirror extensions, have made a World of They are only 1 extensions, but the mirrors out just enough. Go to and ask for:-

2 x Velo Sport Adaptors, SWEN REF: 10mm R/H Int Ext thread, cost Ј6.50 for the pair

New screen Friday 01/03/02

One of the best that I have ever The new screen works well, it doesn’t work as well as a fitted fairing, but the high stuff is much easier A bit of the windblast gets through, but it feel like someones to rip my helmet off at 90 mph now.

I’ve covered 450 miles not much I hear you say from but lets be honest, the sun hasn’t been cracking the flags. The limit is now a bit of a pain, so I’m the rest of the 600 miles to first done as soon as possible, itching for a few more of those big horses. Next write up as as I’m revving to 6700rpm.

Update at 9th August 2002

I hadn’t how long it has been since I did an I’ve added quite a few to the 1400 over the last few she now has 2,300 miles on the clock, not too I know, but then again an admitted fair-weather rider, and being a fairly soggy we don’t get that many days.

The 14 still never to impress, the motor has freed up pulling strongly to the 9,000rpm red whenever she’s asked. had a Dynojet Power Commander III just recently, and what a its made.

The 14 out of the crate runs and although the fuel injection is much fault free, she did every now and then requiring me to off the throttle slightly to get the pick up I in top gear. I was also only around 36mpg. All that has after fitting the PCIII, response is now instant, with the gain to 41mpg, a huge in fuel consumption.

I had the PCIII fitted through the 1400 Owners Club, at a price at FW Developments. Barnacre, Preston. It was a great day out, I met up many members of the club, from having the PCIII by experts, and my bike mapped on dyno.

I’ve added a pic of the session to my photos page.

Suzuki GSX 1400

The were impressive, considering my has a standard exhaust system, is very restrictive, managing at the rear wheel, (click for dyno print off ), especially Suzuki’s own figures are only at the crank. Another machine fitted with an Akrapovic 4-1 PCIII turned out 124.5bhp, what this bike turn out with a decent set of and fancy pistons!!

Anyway, all for now, come back

They sound a bit quieter than the usual cans, but my insurance company not insure me with a non-legal They are the usual high we all expect from Scorpion, and a bargain from Riossi, knocked Ј20 off the rrp bringing them to Ј298.00. For latest pics, here .

4,000 mile and leaky shocks shock

Took my 14 in for her 4,000 mile today, it was a bit early as she has only 3,500 miles, but as she is nearly 12 old, I thought it best.

particularly special about the but the price wasn’t too bad, including new oil filter which enough isn’t part of the mile service, although always thought it best to the filter whenever new oil is put in. So thank you Manchester.

One bad part of the service was the rear shocks were to be weeping, no real surprise as the K2 is to have this fault. I adjusted the shocks for the first the night before she went in for to see if they would leak, and my were realised. Riossi ordered K3 shocks to replace my ones, as it would be pointless to them with K2 shocks for them to leak again.

So well done to Riossi, I do a short write-up on them they arrive.

K3 Shocks fitted 08/01/03

Had my shocks replaced today, service from Riossi at Old absolutely no hassle, no argument, very pleased. All I’ve got to do now is them to suit my weight and style, and all is hunky dory.

Corrosion, Horror of Horrors

Came to give my pride and joy a clean yesterday, plus a preparation for the Winter as the local have been laying on the roads recently. Shock, I found unacceptable corrosion roughly 12 of the left fork-leg, the seems OK apart from a round the pinch bolts at the near the wheel spindle.

I also found quite corrosion on both alloy engine covers. This has as a surprise to me, as I keep my bike and use Autoglym Resin Polish, is highly recommended, obviously is a slight problem with control at Suzuki.

This is the real problem that I come up with on this bike, the rear shocks was well known beforehand, there have been other instances that I heard of owners having problems with the front These were successfully under warranty.

I have Riossi at Manchester with a to a warranty claim, and am taking the in on Wednesday 15/01/03 to see what have to say. I have some photos, (thumb-nails and will update after I some more news.
