It’s chilly and damp and the are greasy. I’ve had several try to kill me this morning, by pulling out without looking or by half the contents of their tanks on roundabouts and I’m a totally unfamiliar bike. OK, so the bit is nothing new, because in job I spend a lot of time on unfamiliar

In fact, none of this is to me — I ride bikes all the so, just like you, I get of used to the extras that go it.

But today I’m grinning an …. And the reason is between my Don’t be so rude, you at the back.

I am out on a brand new, 2004 GSX-R 600 K4. Nobody has road it yet, so we’re getting a which always feels But what feels even is the fact that this bike, despite only 12 miles on the clock when I it, is loosening up nicely and is quite one of the most enjoyable, satisfying and bikes that I have had the pleasure of riding.

It may be a cutting sports bike but the GSX-R lost the usability of the old version. still underseat storage enough for a set of waterproofs and probably a of some sort — is a welcome result of Suzuki’s to stay away from exhausts. Yes, no more peering elbows — this has mirrors that actually even better then the old and they weren’t bad at all to start The restyled over and under is very good on dip although beam on this bike adjusting to get it right. No problem and unreasonable on a dealer demonstrator was only registered yesterday.

The spread is very good and the manages to avoid the torch effect that you often see this type of lamp. beam is the conventional lens dip. As with all 2004 there is not an option to turn the off, that switch replaced by a hazard light on the left bars.

This is probably a time to discuss quality. We lots of muttering about the quality of the bikes on show at the Suzuki assured us at the time they were pre-production and didn’t represent what the ones would be like.

Having had a chance to go over a production machine I can confirm they were telling the The paintwork and lacquer are smooth and graphics are properly lacquered in, castings are properly finished and the bike has a reassuring solid that was distinctly lacking the exhibition bikes.

But you’re more interested in the riding. If a regular here you’ll that my normal day to day ride is a K1 so I was expecting something pretty in comparison. Now while I’ll not be that hairy old cliche on a wave of torque’ to describe or indeed any other, 600, I be saying that the GSX-R is by far the flexible and rideable of all the 600s tried to date.

It pulls from low revs to my enforced rev (running in, you see) and is perfectly to pootle around at low speed in The latest version of Suzuki’s twin butterfly injection is with razor sharp and a delightful woofly sort of from the airbox. The only is the enormous silencer which a little out of proportion and is perhaps a too quiet.

Handling is phenomenal within the imposed by weather and traffic. going to be doing a track at Easter, so I’ll confine to saying that the GSX-R exactly where I pointed it I asked it to without argument or of any kind. On the road the 600 is a dream. It has a fantastic throttle it’s going to go like the when it’s run in, handling is but sharp, it looks good, practical and it has great brakes. it to my 750 I’d say that in the real there would be nothing in it.

The 750 has a little more torque but the 600 everything so accessible that in the end it come down to the individual and what sort of a day they having.
