GSX-R1000 is Suzuki’s most expensive sport bike in India. It’s a premium bike which has its own status. In this review, we try to figure out what makes it different than others.

Design and Style

The first appearance of Suzuki GSX-R1000 is very similar to its younger sibling GSX-R750. In fact, from the front, both bikes are almost virtually identical. The bike has a very big and pointed headlight which gives it a nasty look. It features a full size tinted visor just above its headlight which also carries its rear view mirrors.

These rear view mirrors also features integrated clear lens indicators which can grab your attention easily. The front fairing sports sharp cuts and design which makes this bike look aggressive . Its front fender gets almost covered by its extended headlight. This fender covers the front forks of this bike which looks macho with wide tyre and huge disc plates. Its full body covering hides its engine and features cool graphics on it.

To improve its aerodynamics, Suzuki has opted for an integrated under cowl. There is a big air-inlet on the side of this fairing which looks sporty with its bulky tank. The tank features prominent lines which improves the character of this bike. Suzuki has chosen split seat for this bike.

Its up-swept silencer is very similar to that of Hayabusa. There is no grab rail which gives it a naked look when seen from the back. Its up-raised rear cowl features LED tail light while just below it you will notice its extended rear fender which carries the number plate and side indicators.

Its compact fender looks very trendy with its wide rear tyre.

Suzuki GSX-R1000 has a very basic yet stylish instrument console with 4 bulb shift light system. It features a black colored circular dial for its analogue tachometer which also houses a LCD for gear shift indicator. Just next to this dial, there is another big LCD for its digital speedometer, fuel gauge, odometer and trip meter.

You will also notice many other LED indicators in this instrument console.

Suzuki GSX-R1000 is powered by a four cylinder, 4-stroke 999cc engine . This liquid cooled engine pumps out a whooping power output of 160 bhp at 9500 rpm . This engine is equipped with a six-speed gearbox with a gear shift pattern of one gear down and five gears up. The maximum torque output of this DOHC engine is of 110 Nm which is accessible at 8000 rpm.

Its light weight makes it better than almost every sport bike in this department. Suzuki GSX-R1000 weighs around only 203 kgs which gives it a magnificent power to weight ratio. The bike gets to a flying start and will surprise you completely with its tremendous power pulling. Its throttle only needs a slight effort from you to make this bike cross the speed of 100km/hr.

From standstill to 100km/hr, this bike reaches within 3 seconds . It has very relaxed gear ratios which never restricts your movement. The gear transitions are also very fast and impressive. The bike can cross the speed of 250km/hr easily and you will be pleased with the refinement quality of this engine. The high speed sound of this engine will even prompt you to rev it hard.

The performance of the bike can be controlled by the Suzuki Drive mode selector similar to Hayabusa. The bike can move at slow speed without any hassle in any gear. The low and mid-range of this bike is absolutely blast.

Suzuki GSX-R1000 may return you a mileage of around 15km/ltr .

It’s a wide bike which gives you a nice sense of control and space. The split seat is well padded but you will find it a bit hard for long journeys. The rear set foot-pegs brings your knees around its masculine fuel tank which gives you a good hold of this bike.

You will have to bend forward to reach its clips on handle bar which offers firm palm grip.

You will miss storage space in Suzuki GSX-R1000 but you will be glad to notice its safety features like front brake calliper and powerful headlight.

This bike has MOTO GP inspired suspension and braking system. It features fully adjustable front and rear suspension system. GSX-R1000 has inverted coil spring telescopic front forks and link type, gas/ oil damped coil spring at the back.

It features dual 310mm hydraulic disc brakes at its front and single rear disc brake of 220mm.

The bike is a true winner in this department. From its wheelbase to suspension system, everything seems to be in the favour of this bike. This light machine handles brilliantly at high speeds with a ground clearance of 130mm. It feels rock solid and shows no signs of instability while changing lanes frequently.

Its suspension and broad tyres help this bike to stick firmly on road and it always feels well proportionate. The braking abilities are also exceptional and give you the much needed sense of confidence while driving in city. It’s electronic steering works perfectly and steers as per your command. You always stay connected to the road and get responsive handling.

Thanks to its light weight and wheelbase of 1405mm, the bike feels really stable around corners. The low speed stability is really commendable and there are no issues about its turning abilities either.
