Test — 2012 Suzuki 650 Expedition ABS

It’s not often I get to ride a that inspires me to dream of awe road trips that thousands of kilometres, but for the week I had the 650 Expedition ABS from Suzuki, I think of nothing else.

As the of the bike suggests, this machine comes equipped ABS and a number of factory installed that make it suitable for touring. These add-ons hard aluminum luggage an accessory engine crash hand guards, engine and an adjustable windscreen.

When I laid eyes on the bike, I was with the lockable, removable, and safari-ready looking side Each of the three cases is a size, with the largest able to fit a full-face helmet in it. the smallest case has more enough space to swallow up a briefcase, and have room to Locking, unlocking, and removing of all cases is managed by a small key.

I found the locking mechanisms a flimsy for my liking, and would’ve something that matched the image the hard cases Removing a case off the Expedition V-Strom is as simple as unlocking the primary clasp and sliding it off the on accessory mounting bracket.

all three cases off, the resembles a regular sport and is perfect for commuting around I only rode it without the for a couple of days as I quickly the utility and convenience of having all extra storage space. that I could not only my helmet safe from when parked, but also an extra sweater, a couple of water, my passenger riding and anything else I felt hauling around was a real — it reminded me of how a lot of us carry a bit of in the trunks of our cars.

Being completely straight un-aerodynamic boxes I wondered how cases would affect the 650’s fuel economy. measuring similar rides and without cases using the onboard fuel economy my far from scientific result was the difference is negligible.

Fuel is a highlight with the V-Strom The powerplant in this middleweight represents some serious prowess on the part of Suzuki. I a spectacular 4.4L/100km over of 60/40 (highway/city) mixed while often being with the throttle.

Fuel however, isn’t the best about this V-Twin power and smooth delivery is; able to do it even while regular gasoline is a bonus.

No one really expects a middleweight tourer to be called powerful, but exactly what the V-Strom 650 is. about the almost 200hp for a moment, or even the insanely GSX-R 750, these are all that never get to reach potential on public roads. The displacement on this V-Strom this machine to be plenty off the line, while managing passing manoeuvres with

The sweet spot on the 2012 650’s power band between 4,000 and 6,000rpm. As the rpm’s climb there’s vibration that gets through to the handle bars, but it all out though once a cruising is reached and the bike gets up in to its long 6 th gear. Wind the up in 4 th or 5 th gears though and riders very quickly find far exceeding any posted speed

Note that those cases I like so much on the edition comes with a to not exceed 130km/h. If you’re anywhere in North America probably good advice of whether or not you’ve got luggage on your bike.

Helping riders keep of their speed is a digital coupled with an analogue The 2012 V-Strom 650 also riders digital readouts of gear position (great for those of us who don’t always shifts or sometimes forget), temperature, fuel gauge, trip/economy meters, time, and air temperature.

The latter I found useful when about to set out late at night when had changed as much as 10-15 from earlier in the day; the readout meant I got the necessary on before I started riding, the need for that unplanned for a few minutes after the ride The afore mentioned dual meters and accompanying average economy screens can all be accessed a single button on the left grip; far from being this single button simplified control of the entire

Riding the V-Strom 650 is a breeze. you’re a novice or intermediate it takes mere seconds to get to the bike’s comfortable riding and ergonomic controls. I did find the take-up to be a bit heavy when in traffic to keep feathering.

But the bike gets moving, happen quickly and riders find being smooth easily. Suzuki has engineered the on the V-Strom to be quite forgiving, for even the poorly regulated to keep acceleration a silken

The new V-Strom 650 ABS represents a redesigned and tweaked middleweight adventure for Suzuki in 2012 while the edition I rode is meant to the V-Strom series’ 10 th anniversary. with very agreeable that’s even got long V-Strom fans cheering and a experience that can only praise; the 2012 V-Strom 650 ABS is a real charm that’s got me considering my own version of the second leg of Way Round .
