2010 Aprilia Mana 850 GT November 5, 2010 Posted in 2010 Bike Tests | Comments: 0 Photos: Rick and “Burn” Summary The Aprilia Mana 850 GT has an easy-to-live-with CVT transmission, excellent handling and braking and good fuel economy.  So is it a city bike?  An upgraded scooter?   Or a basic all-around street bike? Background Who would refuse the loan of a brand-spanking-new motorcycle for a month?  Not me. So when Kenn Stamp, the Editor of 2WF.com recruited me for another, the answer was “Yes” before the sentence left his mouth.  I’m on call 24/7, ready any time to review a new motorcycle…all in the interest of our webBikeWorld visitors, of course. This time, it was ...

2009 Aprilia Mana 850 Automatic Transmission Motorcycle Review

2009 Aprilia Mana 850 Automatic Transmission Motorcycle Review Comments February 4, 2009 at 8:32 am (1) Mick says: …And the next blog entry would be where you follow up with a review of a ’76 Hondamatic CB750A. You know, like one of those ‘Then and Now’ technology comparisons. I’m curious as to why it seems that all the ‘automatic’ motorcycle offerings are made in a displacement too large for beginners. It would seem to me that tapping the newbie market with something in the 200-650cc range would make more sense, and they would sell more. The only drawback I can see is that they would cost more, meaning a new rider would have to shell out even more for a new bike. I actually ...

Aprilia Mana 850 First Ride

Aprilia Mana 850 First Ride

Aprilia Mana 850 first ride Think Aprilia and two things come to mind. First, beautiful motorcycles with monstrous engines, and the aura of a brand with no less than 45 world championships under the belt (which leads them to claim the title of the most successful European manufacturer in racing). Second, how they have super-impressive top-flight motorcycles (like the RSV4 or the Tuono V4R) and the super-impressive entry-level motorcycles (like the RS125, now RS250), but literally no famous motorcycles in the middle. At first glance, it’s like an Italian pasta with the sauce missing! Or is it? To get a taste for the filling, we got a taste of the practical Aprilia street bike, the Mana 850. ...

2010 Aprilia Mana 850 GT ABS – Motorcyclist Magazine

Long-Range Leisure They say: The most complete motorcycle on the market. We say: Completely different, yes. They say: The most complete motorcycle on the market. We say: Completely different, It’s Monday morning on a bright June day in the Italian Dolomites, and if there’s a better place to be riding a motorcycle, then I’m not aware of it. The air is crisp, the mountain views stunning, and the road is twisty, smooth and almost deserted. The automatic-transmission Mana GT I’m riding is doing a fine job of living up to its surroundings. The Grand Touring version of the more suburban Mana, the GT comes equipped with a half-fairing, readying it for rides that take you ...

Send this article by email I dig the HFL exhaust Nick Goddard Was there one before Honda’s Hondamatic? Or is that an “automatic”, while this one is a “no clutch” mechanically-shifted sequential manual (a la Ferrari’s F1 gearboxes)? I know the original Ferrari F1 gearboxes in the 355 were not sequential, so the 2-3 shift took longer, for instance, than the 3-4 shift, but surely the latest gearboxes in Ferrari’s roadcars are sequential, no? Aprilia has some good looking headlights, if you know what I mean. Also, a button-operated trunk? Genius! In any case, this is pretty cool for someone who wants to drive an automatic motorcycle. I guess if you were injured or were a delivery ...

Aprilia Mana 850 GT ABS vs. Honda NT700V ABS- Comparison Tests

Aprilia Mana 850 GT ABS vs. Honda NT700V ABS – Comparison Test A quiet battle between the Utilitarians. The lashed-on milk crate is one of the great utility-expanders in motorcycling. But, due to shortcomings in weather protection and security, it’s not nearly as nice as having a bike with real bags. While there are many Big Bike options in Luggage Land, a middleweight machine offers utility and ease of handling on a day-to-day basis that is tough to beat, while also offering enough power, comfort and wind protection for long trips. Which is why we rounded up Honda’s new-to-us-after-10-years-in-Europe NT700V and the Aprilia Mana 850 GT (both with ABS) for some head-to-head battle from ...

Sport-touring lite, with convenience Photography by Alfonse Palaima Video by Fonzie I don’t know about you, but I’ve reached a stage (or age!) in life where I embrace conveniences that make everyday life as simple as possible. This is especially true of my riding. In most instances I’ve learned to park my ego, foregoing the need to only ever ride the fastest, biggest or loudest. When the right time or right bike calls for it, I’ll act a fool, but generally, I like my comfort when riding. Standard on the GT is ABS, and a small front fairing with a moderately adjustable windscreen. There we go! Now the Mana looks like it might fill my lazy man needs quite nicely. Where large-displacement ...

Riding Impression: 2008 Aprilia Mana 850 Aprilia’s Mana 850 goes to seven. Photography By Brian Blades We won’t tell, if you don’t. Yeah, the reality is that most hardened-in-the-saddle motorcyclists wouldn’t be caught dead on a scooter. Yes, scooters are fun, yes, they are convenient and, yes, they aren’t motorcycles. So while it is true that the Honda DN-01does blur lines between categories, what if you want the convenience of that bike’s “friendly” transmission without the attention afforded by its unusual paradigm-melting, quasi-scooter appearance? Then you may want the Aprilia Mana 850. A big part of this Italian bike’s charm is how well it integrates scooter-like ...

Test Aprilia 850 Mana: Revolutionary!

Test Aprilia 850 Mana: Revolutionary! A clap of thunder that might upset many achievements! The Aprilia 850 Mana is not content to highlight its automatic transmission or practical aspects: it also offers a real driving fun! Unexpected and surprising a time… Aprilia 850 Mana: First attempt Almost all major manufacturers have at one time or another imagined a motorcycle with an automatic transmission. But past achievements or Honda Moto Guzzi for example, have never known a success, possibly because of mechanical systems too complicated or simply because the rider never thought to do without the clutch torque / selector. The drive on the other hand, one finds the greatest mechanical genius ...
