Full-on Buell 1996 Buell S1 Lightning gets a makeover Photos: Amee Reehal Everybody’s seen a customized Harley-Davidson, but how about a customized Buell. (RIP, Buell.) Although Erik Buell’s machines have always had a distinctive look to them there are those out there who think the design could be improved upon. One of those individuals is Paul Shore. We wrote about Calgary-based Shore and his Motorrad Performance shop in issue 1205 of Inside Motorcycles. There, I wrote: “Since the late 1980s Motorrad owner Paul Shore has been designing and building unique custom motorcycles, most often based on European machines, and the occasional tube-frame Buell. Shore was born and raised in Winnipeg. ...

Buell X1 – Buell

Buell X1 – 8’690 items found icehawk. Does anyone know the difference between a Buell M2 Cyclone, X1 Lightning, or S1 Lightning? Use a battery eliminator, at least. Tends to travail a little better than cruising around with Voltage Regulator sensing ZERO volts. Lose using electric starter on any downgraded power supply, the low amperage is bankrupt on the starter will eventually ruin an expensive part. You may also consider using a 12V Nimh Power clique. as used in RC’s,Robots,Portable Electronics,Tools, etc. Most have only miliamps. 700 1200,etc. But ya dont shortage much amperage to cold start the ignition/fuel system. The standing voltage of the wee batt-pack ...

Buell X1 Lighting

By late 1998, Erik Buell’s lively and IK distinctive sports bikes had come a long way since the Wisconsin-based engineer and former racer’s first model, more than ten years earlier. With their distinctive styling, upright riding position, tuned Harley V-twin motors and agile chassis, Buells had provided plenty of speed and handling along with more fun than just about anything else on two wheels. But Buells had suffered some problems, too. Models such as the S1 Lightning had been rather eccentric, with their big, ugly air filter, truck-like exhaust, uncomfortably tiny seat, soft Harley footrests and tendency to overheat their rear cylinder. That was until late 1998, when Buell introduced ...

Buell X1 Lightning – Motorbikes Reviews, News & Advice – bikepoint.com.au

Buell X1 Lightning (March 2002) Striking styling, a thunderous pipe and enough vibes to shake your fillings loose – is Buell’s race-kitted X1 Lightning the ultimate sportsbike alternative? If anything, Buell’s X1 Lightning is certainly different. That bulbous tank, upside-down front forks, its ‘lopsided’ appearance courtesy of its massive airbox, and – shock of shocks – isn’t that a Harley donk above that underslung exhaust? Pull up among a group of fellow riders, and the X1 will quickly become the centre of attention, as investigative eyes pour over every detail of this unusual creation, from its Kevlar belt drive to its massive front brake ...

Buell Lightning X1 – review and opinion – Full of character and sounds…

Full of character and sounds great but not for the faint hearted! Well, what can I say, I have the Buell bug and have owned mine for 3 years now. My girlfriend has had her X1 for a bit longer, so we own 2! Must be nice then huh? 😉 This bike is a bit of a mixed bag and Buells in general are a Marmite kind of thing. You either love them or hate them. Very little in between. I personally think that Eric Buell was a very brave man to take a Sportster engine, tune it up to 80-90BHP, when standard Sportsters were only making 50-60BHP and shoe-horn it into a great handling chassis that goes around corners like the best of the Japanese competition and had brilliant brakes. The bike itself handles ...

Saturday Morning Special: 2001 Buell X1 Lightning café racer Message * : Email me a copy of this message * mandatory fields John Whitby is a motorcycle-building machine. His friend and the owner of bike breaker TJ’s Cycle in Calgary, Mark Blundell, has Whitby figured out. It’s like this. Imagine a meat grinder. Pour a bunch of parts into the hopper and turn the handle. Just like magic, instead of hamburger, out pops a motorcycle. In less than two years Whitby completed a 1928 Model T rat rod and three motorcycle projects from the ground up. One of those bikes is the 2001 Buell X1 Lightning café racer seen here it took him five months to crank this one out. Whitby ...

Test Ride: Buell Lightning X1 – Canada Moto Guide

Test Ride: Buell Lightning X1 Words: Larry Tate   Photos: Larry Tate Anyone who’s ever had an independent dog for a pet, one that’s big and likes to play but occasionally decides to ignore you and do its own thing to the furniture, will probably have a pretty good idea of what it’s like to live with a Buell X1 Lightning. Bad Buell! The seat is nasty. The vibration is a killer. Servicing the thing is a serious pain in the tush. The suspension is way too stiff, and the rear shock failed on our test unit. Good Buell! Hell for strong brakes, a compact, mass-centering design, good acceleration, and lightning-quick direction changing make it an absolute hoot to ride at a track day or on ...
