First impression: Ducati Monster 696, Monster 1100, SportClassic Sport 1000 Biposto At a driving event this fall, we had a chance to sample a few motorcycles we may not formally test. As with high-performance cars, high-end motorcycles often set the standard for handling, braking, acceleration, and other attributes. While we started testing scooters and motorcycles again last year focused on the entry-level and casual use market, we have been sampling larger, more powerful bikes to remain calibrated. (See our previous motorcycle blog posts .) We rode three Ducati bikes: the entry-level Monster 696, larger Monster 1100, and the SportClassic Sport 1000 Biposto, a bike styled like a classic ...

2006-2008 Ducati Monster S2R 1000 — Motorcyclist Magazine

Smart Money To those who accept Ducati’s Monster as prima facie evidence that simplicity makes a better motorcycle, the S2R 1000 is Exhibit A: a 992cc two-valve twin cast in the spirit of Dr. T’s original Pompone . No Radiators. No water jackets. No quartet of cams. Just the essentials: two Desmodue cylinders sending 87 gloriously useable horses to the pavement at 8750 rpm, with all but one of those cavalli on deck at 7500. After opening for business from 2000 rpm, it makes more power from 3000 to 6000 than the 118-horse Testastretta in an S4RS, sprinting from 0-60 mph in a credible 3.4 seconds-one tick ahead of that marital aid in the Lamborghini Diablo. The supporting cast ...

2004 Ducati Monster M1000 Road Test Photo Credit: Kevin Wing Ken Freund February 3, 2005 Just about every engine that Ducati produces seems to find its way into the tried-and-true Monster series eventually-and that’s a good thing! By coupling the relatively new DS1000 dual-spark engine with the popular and long-running Monster chassis, Ducati produced the Monster 1000 i.e. for 2004, a … sport-standard V-twin that’s fast, fun and simple. The Monster M1000 series replaces the 900s and is the most powerful air-cooled Monster yet. For 2004 they were available in two versions. Although both share the same 1,000cc DS (Dual Spark) Desmodue engine previously introduced on the Super ...

Street Testing Ducati’s Sub-$10,000 Naked Bike in Italy Before the 2011 Ducati Monster 796 was unveiled, the rift within the Monster lineup was considerable: the entry level 696 served as a great advanced beginner bike. while the 1100 offered a considerably more ballsy option. How does the Monster 796 bridge the gap? To find out, I put Ducati’s newest … bike to the test on the twisty, hilly roads surrounding Bologna, Italy. 2006 Ducati Monster S2R 1000 — Road Test — Motorcyclist Magazine

The 2006 S2R 1000 Might Be The Monster Deal In Ducati’s Lineup According to Miguel Galluzzi, the Argentinean designer who dreamed up this whole Monster thing in the first place, all you need is a saddle, tank, engine, two wheels and handlebars. That’s an apt description of any Monster, and doubly so when it comes to the new S2R 1000. OK, so the monstrous S4Rs is more impressive the more you’re impressed by raw power and … parts. But this new middle-spec Monster is truer to Galluzzi’s original stripped-down ideal-and at $9995, being $5000 cheaper hardly hurts. The ergonomic challenges of a wide ‘bar and high pegs are just as painful here, and unless you ...
