Honda DN-01 Review ‘How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world that hath such motorcycles in it!’ It’s not often I start a motorcycle road test with a misquote from Shakespeare, or any sort of quote for that matter, but then again this is no ordinary motorcycle. Actually, I’m not entirely sure motorcycle is the right word for the DN-01. Honda’s latest concept bike appears to be neither conventional cruiser nor scooter and yet it’s kind of both at the same confusing time. There’s no denying though, that the concept is a brave one and indeed the Honda boffins deserve a degree of respect for bringing it to the market in the first place. First off, let’s ...

CVT Equipped – 2009 Honda DN-01 Bike-urious

CVT Equipped – 2009 Honda DN-01 The Honda DN-01 was, depending on who you ask, a cruiser motorcycle, a scooter, the greatest revolution to the motorcycling industry since the Honda Cub. or a waste of time. Very unique, and very controversial, it only sold in the United States for two years, as it was a commercial failure. The issue, in our eyes, is that this wasn’t truly a motorcycle – it’s a maxi scooter. Think of it as a Suzuki Burgman on steroids. Though it’s got a V-twin engine from the Honda NT700V, the engine note is a bit of a disappointment. The Honda DN-01 is chock full of features you wouldn’t associate with a scooter, like anti-lock brakes and a single sided swing arm. ...

Honda DN-01 on sale in Singapore ? Hello bikers, I live on Phuket and I am in love with the Honda DN01, riding a Silverwing600 ( with sidecar). The DN01 has automatic. that´s what I need again. Where can I buy it? In Germany the price is €12.000. in Japan about €8.000 which would make up a good portion of the Thai import duty. Dn-01 Honda DN-01 Reason I bought the bike: Because it is there. Ok. Seriously. the reasons are:- 1) It has a low seat height. I’m only 1.58m and getting shorter thanks to gravity. 2) I prefer shaft final drive. clean and almost maintainence free. actually lazy to lube and adjust chains. 3) It’s fully automatic with tiptronic style gear shift, ...

2009 Honda DN-01 Review –

A marriage of motorcycle and scooter If the variety of motorcycles at Daytona’s Bike Week could be distilled into one machine, one could make a case that the Honda DN-01 would be the result. V-Twin engine? Check Feet-forward riding position? Check. Attention-grabbing appearance? Check. A dab of sportbike? Check. The DN-01 is a peculiar concoction: two parts scooter; one part cruiser; and one part sportbike. And if you have to ride a scooterish motorcycle during Bike Week, this new Honda fits right in by standing apart, as we found out by cruising A1A and Main Street around Daytona last week. Whatever you call it, the DN-01 (could we please have a name with some personality…?) makes ...

2009 Honda DN-01 Road Test American Honda says it has no plans to import the DN-01, but you just never know. We can certainly think of several non-U.S. Hondas we’d like to see come here first…. Photo Credit: Francesc Montero, Ula Serra, Felix Romero Kevin Ash October 10, 2008 [this review of the 2009 Honda DN-01 was originally published in the November 2008 issue of Rider ] Confusion. If there was a consistent theme running through the presentation of Honda’s new DN-01 in Milan, then this was it. Confusion first is exactly what the DN-01 is or is meant to do-it looks more like a scooter than anything else, and it has a twist-and-go transmission, so as with any other scooter, you ...

Honda DN-01 long-term update: Part 1 – Canada Moto Guide

Honda DN-01 long-term update: Part 1 Words: Costa Mouzouris/Editor ‘Arris. Photos: Costa, unless otherwise specified SIDEBAR – WHY THE DN-01? We agreed to pick up the DN-01 during the launch of the SH150 scooter in Montreal (thus saving a trip to Toronto), which had the added bonus of being able to chat with Honda Canada’s Warren Milner about the DN-01 concept. First off it was made very clear that it is NOT a scooter. Fair enough, but then what is it and why even go there? According the Milner it’s part sport bike (brakes/chassis) and part cruiser (floorboards, rider positioning) and was designed to try and attract a completely new rider to motorcycling – the techno early adapter ...

2008 Honda DN-01: MD First Ride – Motorcycle…

2008 Honda DN-01: MD First Ride Since we first saw the prototype a few years ago at the 2005 Tokyo show, we had the feeling that the DN-01 was not just a futuristic design exercise. It seemed like its intent was to find a home for the new electrohydraulic HFT (Human Friendly Transmission), a transmission that was gaining success in the world of ATVs, in a decidedly unconventional motorcycle. Last year the production version debuted, and it will be arriving in dealers (not in the U.S. for the moment) with a 680-cc water-cooled v-twin engine derived from the Deauville motorcycle. Aesthetically, the design of the final production version is nearly 100-percent faithful to the first concepts. Honda ...

First ride: Honda’s outrageous(?) DN-01 automatic sports-cruiser motorcycle

First ride: Honda’s outrageous(?) DN-01 automatic sports-cruiser motorcycle At a recent Honda test-ride day, I finally had the chance to throw a leg over what must be one of the oddest motorcycles on the market – the bizarre DN-01 sports cruiser. The Dino’s way-out looks don’t particularly float my boat, but it’s bristling with fascinating new technology, like Honda’s ‘Human-Friendly’ automatic transmission (HFT), which operates as a CVT in Drive or Sports modes, but is also able to mimic a 6-speed manual box when you want to get some gumboot up it. Then there’s the Combined Braking System (CBS) with ABS, which isn’t quite as techno ...
