Randakk’s Supercharger Prototype for Honda GL1000 As I reported in the December, 2007 eNewsletter, the Supercharger Kit is on the road and performing very well. For a variety of business reasons, I decided not to proceed to production. Brief Point-of-View Video Captures the Intoxicating Whine of a Blower!   I’m certainly not the first to put a supercharger on an early Wing. Other parties have done so dating back to the late ’70s. My goal on this project was to build a better blown GL1000 than any I’ve seen on the road. Previous efforts that I’ve evaluated have limitations that I hoped to overcome. I believe I have been very successful from an engineering point of view. Special ...

Goldwing Motorcycles

Honda Goldwing Motorcycles The Honda Goldwing motorcycle series are one of the most popular motorcycle models ever produced. The prototype, made in 1972 was first shown to the world in a 1974 Cologne motorcycle show, and the bike was eagerly anticipated the world over, until its release in 1975. In many ways it was a gamble by Honda like all new ideas are. The revolutionary Goldwing Honda introduced many innovative ideas with the Goldwing 1000cc – a fuel pump system, rather than the gravity oriented fuel flow common to most motorbikes. What appeared to be the fuel tank of the Honda Goldwing . was just a housing for the radiator (yeah, it had a radiator) overflow in fact! The real ...

Honda GL1000 – CycleChaos

Honda GL1000 The Honda GL1000 is a motorcycle produced by Honda from 1975 to 1979. Contents Shaft-Driven and Silent The GL1000 is powered by a water-cooled opposed four (flat four) engine that displaces 999cc. The camshafts of its flat-four engine were driven by cogged belts. The GL1000 came equipped with shaft drive. as opposed to being chain driven. This adds a level of smoothness, reduces maintenance, and avoids the problem of chain oil being slung everywhere. Most motorcycles made (by other companies) up to that point used a gas tank mounted in front of the rider, on top of the backbone of the bike. The GL1000 had a faux tank, that was nothing more than a cover for the electronics, ...

MotoGP 2011: Stoner shines on Honda RC212V

MotoGP 2011: Stoner shines on Honda RC212V Honda’s RC212V took four of the top five finishing spots in the opening round of MotoGP 2011 The first MotoGP race of the year has been run and won, so we’ve got our first glimpse at what season 2011 is going to look like. And it seems it’s going to look like the Honda Cup. Delivering on the promise the bike showed last year, Honda’s RC212V took four of the top five finishing spots in Qatar, with only defending champion Jorge Lorenzo waving the flag for Yamaha in second place. Ben Spies rode to an encouraging sixth place for Yamaha, and the Rossi/Ducati combination started with a whimper, not a bang, in 7th. Smart money would ...

Riding the MotoGP Motorcycles – Feature Review – Motorcyclist Online

MotoGP heaven: Riding the ultimate racers from Kawasaki, Ducati, Yamaha and Honda. By Alan Cathcart In a dramatic turnaround, Grand Prix racing has transformed itself in the past two years — and the powersliding, fairing-bashing, exhaust-howling racing that’s resulted has been a damn good spectacle, too. The invention of the four-stroke MotoGP class as a response to the increasing spectator allure of streetbike-based World Superbike has proved to be a master stroke — even if, as in the old 500cc two-stroke days, Honda has dominated, with 29 wins in 32 GP events run under the new MotoGP formula. Even in the early days of this anything-goes category — four strokes up ...

Photos: 2003 Yamaha YZR-M1 Prototype 12/05/2011 @ 10:42 am, by Jensen Beeler 8 COMMENTS It seems only fitting that after reviewing the BRD RedShift SM prototype. that we should turn our attentions to another prototype machine…or should we say, a prototype of a prototype. A glimpse into how lost in the woods Yamaha was with its MotoGP program pre-Rossi, the 2003 Yamaha YZR-M1 prototype is the work of a company desperately looking for a solution against Honda’s very potent RC211V. Employing two Öhlins rear shock absorbers, Yamaha’s philosophy and process of handling over power is very evident in this prototype’s design, though the implementation seems a bit murkier. Laced with linear ...

2012 BMW 1-series M Coupe – Prototype Ride – Car Reviews – Car and Driver

The new compact M: affordability without compromise. TASSILO SPELER AND THE MANUFACTURER Read a review of the 1-series M Coupe and see how it fared in a comparison test against the Audi TT RS and the Infiniti IPL G Coupe. BMW’s M GmbH is responsible for some of the most satisfying cars ever to roam the planet. For the past 25 years, its creations have become ever more powerful and fasterand, accordingly, more expensive. The entry-level M car, the 3700-pound M3 sedan, now comes in at $56,275 and is powered by a 4.0-liter V-8. That’s a lot of money and engine, and although the current M3 is a supremely fast and rewarding steed, it does not feel as light and nimble as its E30 forebear. ...

Honda GL1000 Goldwing Road Test – Classic Motobikes – Bike Reviews

Honda GL1000 Goldwing Road Test When Honda introduced the first of the GL series at the 1974, Cologne show the rest of the world could never have imagined it would create a whole new breed of motorcyclist and riding style, let alone still be around in one form or another today. Most had considered a larger version of the CB750 to be on the cards, however few had guessed correctly. Now in its fourth decade and its fifth generation of continued production the Goldwing is a true phenomenon of modern motorcycling. The machine combined what appeared to be a perfectly normal, conventional chassis and cycle parts wrapped around nothing less than a car engine to create a perfectly well behaved machine. ...

Prototype Honda Electronic ABS Tested – Motorcycle USA

Prototype Honda Electronic ABS Tested With its recent announcement that all bikes over 250cc would soon feature ABS standard, Honda introduces a prototype combined brake by wire system. Our man in Europe tests the system at the exclusive German launch. Honda CEO Takeo Fukui announced this May that the Japanese firm would make ABS standard on its entire motorcycle lineup displacing 250cc and above. It seems a fitting technological safety upgrade for the manufacturer that launched the first airbag production bike. Our Euro Gossip correspondent, Ian Kerr, managed an invite to the exclusive launch of Honda’s all-new prototype combined ‘brake by wire’ system. Here are the details. ...
