Honda’s Race History — 1966

1966 becomes the absolute top year for Honda. They win the manufacturers’ world championship in all five classes, for this year they also compete in the 500 cc class, and individual world championships in three classes. This year Mike Hailwood, arguably the greatest motorcycle racer ever, joins the Honda team as a works rider (his participation and resulting first world championship 250 cc in 1961 was as a privateer, ...

iModeler 1/12 Honda RC166 GP racer by Tamiya Here’s the latest kit I’ve completed. I’m not normally a two wheel fan, but this Honda is an exception. About the bike: The RC166 was Honda’s triumphant development of its 250 cc racers which started in 1954 when Soichiro Honda declared his ambition to win the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT). The TT course is a 60 km long, and the race is 200 km distance, all on public roads. Honda eventually achieved its ambition in 1966, not only winning the TT, but also the world championship. The RC166 had a six cylinder 250 cc engine, revving to 17,500 rpm (incredible for 1966), and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful motor cycles ever produced. ...

HRC History: Honda Explains The Photos On Display In The Paddock Submitted by David Emmett on Wed, 2011-08-31 17:37 As a journalist, one of the less glamorous parts of the weekend is spent waiting around to talk to riders. Less glamorous, maybe, but certainly not unpleasant: the time is usually spent standing around in the hospitality units of the teams or manufacturers, picking at snacks especially laid on for us and being served refreshments by the friendly and charming staff that crew the hospitality units. In the HRC hospitality unit, where the press get all those quotes from Dani Pedrosa, Andrea Dovizioso and Casey Stoner you will read in various media outlets around the world, the waiting ...

Honda: 500 Motorcycle Grand Prix wins. MotoGP Feature

Honda: 500 Motorcycle Grand Prix wins. Honda reached a glorious landmark with its 500th Motorcycle Grand Prix victory in Suzuka last Sunday, setting a record unmatched by any manufacturer since the world championships began in 1949. The long story of Honda’s success began with its first GP racing venture at the 1959 Isle of Man TT when four out of five twin-cylinder RC142s entered in the 125cc race finished, gaining Honda the manufacturer’s team prize. Honda CBX

Honda’s CBX, a Six-Cylinder Classic The year was 1978, and Soichiro Honda’s engineering team had completed work on their most ambitious consumer product yet, the 1047cc, 24 valve, six cylinder CBX. Honda drew upon their prior 6 cylinder experience, notably the 247cc DOHC, RC166 race bike, that the legendary Mike Hailwood won the 250 cc World Championship with in 1966 and 1967. Magic Mike took a bored-out version of this bike (297cc) and accomplished stunning wins in the 350cc class as well, setting an absolute lap record at the Isle of Man along the way. There were obstacles to overcome in the CBX development, some that were unexpected. The short … engine loved to rev, and ...

Posts Tagged ‘250cc’ Soundtrack to the greatest show on earth February 20, 2011 The spectacle that motorsport creates is one of its main draws. Fast paced, brightly coloured, flame spitting action ignites the passions of the devout and the casual alike. Human beings like to be excited, thrilled and a little bit frightened, it make us feel alive. The visual element only goes so far, for me, sound is even more important. You’ll hear the action long before you see it, sound carries boundless distances in the right conditions. The thrill of hearing this sound approach either in a forest stage or a race track is an addictive one. Below I’ve compiled a little collection of clips that ...
