Faster and Faster: Memorable: Laverda 750 Formula S

Memorable: Laverda 750 Formula S Can’t beat the Italians on style. Properly gorgeous, eh? Indeed, the Laverda 750 Formula S, from the late-1990s, was quite something in its day. Its 747cc parallel twin made 95 horsepower at 9200rpm, the aluminum beam frame was one developed by chassis specialist Nico Bakker, the gearbox was a six-speed unit, and with its Termignoni exhausts, the 750 Formula S made all the right noises when opened up. And while it won’t keep up with a modern-day GSX-R. the 750 Formula S, with a dry weight of 189kg, could hit a top speed of around 220km/h. Moto Laverda was actually set up back in the late-1940s, and their small-capacity bikes were successfully raced ...

Laverda 750S Formula (1999)

LAVERDA, EST. 1949 ITALY 750S FORMULA — LONDON 1999 Nicholas Frankl European Correspondent If you ride a bike because you have to, then the Laverda 750S Formula, in bright orange and silver, is not for you. In fact come to think of it, forget it in any colour. The 750S is to motorbikes what the Ferrari F40 was to supercars back in 1988. Fast, brutal, uncompromising and uncomplicated. Both, strangely, have the same power characteristics. Very little low down torque, but the most terrific performance once on song, or in the F40’s case, on twin turbo V8 serenade. I have to admit that on this occasion I got on much better with the orange monster than with a yellow cousin last ...

Laverda 750 Sport Formula

Laverda’s Formula 750S is essentially a factory-built special edition of the basic Formula, with extensive engine tuning and even more special chassis componentry. The original Formula was a 650, built in 1996, with the 750 Formula following a year later in 1997. The engine work was more extensive than most factory specials, and took the Formula almost to a race tune straight from the showroom. Uprated cams, revised fuel-injection settings and carbon-fibre Termignoni silencers all boost top-end power to an impressive claimed figure of 69kW (92bhp) — almost as much as the more successful Ducati 748, another 750-class twin. The chassis also compares well with the 748, being considerably ...

One Man’s Laverda — Vintage Motorcycles Online

One Man’s Laverda N o matter how reliable, sorted or mechanically excellent today’s motorcycles are, there are still plenty of owners who worry about buying a clinkerAs far back as the 1920s manufactures were keen to advertise their machines as fit for duty. Case in point was  Giuseppe Guzzi; brother of Moto Guzzi founder Carlo. In 1928 the young Italian rode one of the factory’s production singles to the Arctic Circle and back, testing Guzzi’s new swingarm suspension and proving the machine’s overall toughness and durability. And while we can all appreciate the wartime motorcycles that endured literally, under fire, we remember BMW as the manufacturer who first ...
