MV Agusta/Corona 1000S VMOL looks at the Corona 1000S and preceding MV Fours I f there was ever a rolling contradiction, it has to be MV’s line of production fours. Understated and refraining from the bold, they nonetheless come across as aggressive; confident. Finished in pale grey like the legendary Works racers that inspired them, the MV’s DOHC sand cast multi grabs you by virtue of its intricate sophistication. Promoted (and inscribed) with the promise of championship glory, Count Agusta, the factory’s archetypical kingpin, saw to it that his production wares left the gates detuned and fitted with shaft drive. Yet, the MV exudes its aura from the inside out, allowing even those ...

MV Agusta F4 RR — 150kW at 13 400rpm! — IOL Motoring Bikes, Quads & Karts…

MV Agusta F4 RR — 150kW at 13 400rpm! May 16 2011 at 01:27pm Italian aircraft engineers such as the builders of Agusta helicopters have a saying, If it looks right, it’ll fly right. The same could be said of their motorcycles. Ever since the golden era of Hailwood and Agostini, the name MV Agusta has been one to conjure with. The company is no longer involved in MotoGP, but has forged just as iconic a reputation as a builder of cutting-edge sports bikes. And now that edge just got sharper with the announcement of the F4 RR, an all-new litre-class four, created using the most exotic materials, ultra-sophisticated suspension and a short-… 1000cc engine, making it, according ...

Otto Cilindri: Moto Guzzi V8 Grand Prix Racer- Guzzi V8 Racing Machine

Otto Cilindri: Moto Guzzi V8 Grand Prix Racer Fast, fragile, flawed and fantastic, the Moto Guzzi V8 of the 1950s should have ruled Grand Prix racing. But it didn’t… Photographer. Cycle World Archives, Moto Guzzi, © Morton’s Media The Guzzi V8! If you dabble the least bit in motorcycling history, you have heard of this complex and ambitious machine, built in 1955 to dominate 500cc Grand Prix racing. At its best, the V8 had the numbers to do it. In 1957, when Gilera and MV were making no more than 67-70 horsepower from their inline-Fours, the V8 could summon 80 crankshaft hp at just over 12,000 rpm—a power level not reached again in GP racing for 10 years. It had staying power, being ...

Harley Agusta?

Harley Agusta? Despite a tough first quarter. Harley-Davidson is apparently financially solvent enough to entertain buying most of the troubled Italian boutique builder MV Agusta, according to a Forbes story cited by Hell for Leather Magazine . MV Agusta boasts a rich history that includes an astounding 37 world Grand Prix titles (14 of which were delivered by Giacomo Agostini), but the Italian bike builder is in debt to the tune of 95 million euros. Forbes indicates that Harley hopes to write off 35% of that debt, when and if such a purchase occurs. This news comes after I recently tested MV’s outrageous (but not sold out) six-figure superbike, the F4CC. You’ll hear my thoughts ...

First Ride: 2010 MV Agusta F4 — Press Launches — 2010 MV Agusta SuperSport…

First Ride: 2010 MV Agusta F4 Message * : Email me a copy of this message * mandatory fields MV Agusta’s F4 is on its way to Canada. Soonish. Much has changed in the motorcycling landscape since the glory years of MV in the ’50s, ’60s, and early ’70s. As a kid, when I first became interested in motorcycle racing history, I was stunned by photographs and black and white films of ’50s Grand Prix events. Alongside the unimaginably exotic three- and four-cylinder bikes from MV, Benelli, and Mondial were single-cylinder thumpers from Norton and AJS. I couldn’t make sense of it. It was clearly the technology of the past versus the technology of the future. ...

Jarno Saarinen

Jarno Saarinen Career Early in his career he won the Finnish ice track racing championship. He was also an accomplished motorcycle speedway racer. He had studied mechanical engineering and thus could fix his bike in addition to riding it. These skills allowed him to develop a new riding style. Saarinen was the first to ride corners with his body hanging off the bike with his knee on the ground. Kenny Roberts would later perfect the style after watching Saarinen race. The style is predominantly still in use today. Saarinen began his Grand Prix career during the 1970 season, at the age of 25. He would finish in a respectable fourth place in the 250cc class (now GP2). In 1971 Saarinen competed ...

1975 MV Agusta 750S America Hemmings Motor News

A limited-production performance bike made for the American market Feature Article from Hemmings Motor News Establishing themselves as a predominant racing success through 37 Grand Prix Championships in less than 30 years of manufacture, MV Agustas were some of the most sought-after racing bikes in Europe and on the international circuit. Not bad for a company that specialized in building helicopters before branching out into motorcycles. But, with waning retail sales, the future of the company by 1975 was bleak. The new company leadership in Italy was eventually convinced by its U.S. importer, Chris Garville, and American MV Agusta retailer, Jim Cotherman, to produce a limited-edition sport ...
