PH2 ridden: 2012 Suzuki V-Strom 650 – PistonHeads

PH2 RIDDEN: 2012 SUZUKI V-STROM 650 Suzuki’s V-twin all-rounder is now less fugly and still very good. When Suzuki pulled the covers off the original V-Strom 1000 in 2002 there was more than a slight intake of breath. Not only was the bike staggering ugly, it also had a stupid name that most assumed was the result of a mistranslation from English to Japanese. You can imagine the mobile phone conversation between two designers as one drops in and out of signal. How about a V-Storm? A V-SUM? No, STORM. STRUM? STORM! Ok, STROM No, oh sod it, yeah, whatever. If you care a Strom is actually, according to Suzuki, the German name for a stream. Anyway, after a few years the 1,000cc V-Strom ...

Suzuki DR650 First Ride – webBikeWorld

DR650SE First Ride Report The Budget Adventure Tourer by Rick K. for webBikeWorld.com Background I purchased this slightly used 2009 Suzuki DR650SE in the winter of 2011 for the Budget Adventure Touring series and as the next webBikeWorld.com project bike. Winter isn’t the best time to buy a new motorcycle, of course, and the weather just didn’t cooperate. But when the snow finally melted, it was time to take it for a spin. It had been quite some time since I last rode a dual-sport motorcycle, and I didn’t quite know what to expect. In fact, I agonized over this purchase for much longer than it usually takes to decide on the next new bike. Sure, I had read all the DR650 ...

Suzuki V-Strom 650 2011 Ash On Bikes

Suzuki V-Strom 650 2011 The Suzuki V-Strom 650 has a new engine that isn’t that new, the same chassis and a fresh set of clothes. Is this really enough to for a convincing fight back? The answer’s a bit of a surprise. The V-Strom 650 was something of a slow burner in sales terms. When it came out in 2003, the too-big headlights and awkward styling put off the early buyers, but as its virtues began to shine through, so its popularity increased. When the ABS version appeared in 2006 the bike became the best seller in the class, unusual for a machine into its third year. Even so, when I rode the 2011 XP version a few months ago I was disappointed. The design had clearly aged, and ...

Suzuki Gladius SFV 650 All Rights Reserved © 2010 Thomas W. Day For the record, a gladius is a short, thrusting [Roman] sword. designed both for thrusting and for cutting in close-in combat. 1 The Suzuki Gladius is a short ( 56.9 wheelbase, 30.9 seat height) Japanese motorcycle designed for thrusting and cutting through urb an traffic combat. A goofy name doesn’t define a bike; unless the bike is a Drifter, Rebel, Virago, or Valkyrie. The Gladius is not a goofy bike. At the peak of the big-assed cruiser boom In 1999, Suzuki broke ranks with the me-too crowd and imported a radical (for the US) new aluminum-framed naked standard; the SV650. The SV was a huge seller and a raft of competitors ...

2011 Suzuki Burgman 650 Comparison – Motorcycle USA

2011 Suzuki Burgman 650 Comparison Jump in the cockpit of the largest scoot in our lineup in the 2011 Suzuki Burgman 650 – Scooter Shootout Video . There are few scooters on the market that better fit the Maxi Scooter moniker than the 2011 Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive. This is as big as scooters get. In fact, with a 638cc engine and 626-pound wet weight, it’s a stretch to consider the Burgman a scooter in the true sense of the word. Then again, none of the machines in this shootout share much in common with a ‘traditional’ pass-through scoot, so we decided to roll with it or in this case float with it, as that’s exactly what it feels like to pilot Suzuki’s ...

2013 Suzuki Burgman 650 ABS- First Ride Review- Photos

2013 Suzuki Burgman 650 ABS – First Ride Suzuki updates its popular maxi-scooter. New motorcycle categories emerge with surprising regularity. Here’s one I dreamed up: Mini-Moto SUV. Who is the target buyer? Owners of luxury-tourers, experienced riders who are tired of the size and weight of those massive, over-the-road machines. Restyled this year, the Suzuki Burgman 650 ABS could be categorized as a Mini-Moto SUV, but don’t for one second think it’s only intended for, ahem, mature riders. In fact, just like past models, this latest Burgman is excellent transportation for anyone seeking an easy-to-ride vehicle with good power, locking underseat storage and ability to travel long distances ...

When it debuted in 1999, Suzuki’s small-fry naked bike wowed the press and public alike despite having modest power, budget components and no wind protection. Why? The SV650 had that special something not all bikes have. It can’t be bolted on and it doesn’t show up in spec charts. Character, soul, mojo, whatever you call it, the SV650 had it. Fun and rowdy, easy to ride but never boring, affordable and stone reliable, it was like that good friend who always has your favorite beer in his fridge, a comfy couch you can crash on and tools you can borrow. ...

2012 Suzuki V-Strom 650 ABS Review: First Ride [Video] –

An evolved Strom emerges with a host of People’s Choice improvements Hot off the 2011 V-Strom 650 ABS press bike parked in my garage, certain characteristics were immediately obvious after boarding the 2012 Strom, the first being new suspension settings. Besides coming from the factory with more preload applied, the V-Strom’s fork is otherwise unchanged. The rear shock, however, boasts an increased spring rate. The changes may not sound like much, but the better-suspended V-Strom exhibits improved handling during quick transitions between paved corners or when tackling bumpy off-road obstacles. There’s also less forward and aft pitch when braking and accelerating aggressively. Preload ...
