Triumph America: A Love

In May 2011 I made what I to be one of the worst decisions of my life: I my beloved 2008 Triumph for a bigger bike, a Triumph III Touring. I had gotten it in my head I needed a big bike. Not just a big the BIGGEST bike.

Almost the moment I brought the Rocket III from the dealership, I realized it the right bike for me. I really my America. I was sorry I had traded it in.

I was in myself for getting bitten by the is better’ bug and had been kicking ever since. I pined to an America back in my stable

Early this season I the Rocket and bought a used which has proven to be a very choice for me. But I had it in the back of my head if the opportunity presented itself, I add another America to the stable. For of this season I had my eye out for another one.

A recent class at a racetrack had me sportbike yesterday.

Then a few ago I took a riding class at a and had suddenly gotten bit by the track day Now I had it in my mind to get an inexpensive track and do more track days – like a mid 2000′s R6 or CBR-600. So I made the rounds of local looking for a candidate to buy.

As I into Martin Motorsports. one of my haunts, I noticed a woman next to a Pacific Blue and New White America just the one I used to own. “Cool,” I “An America like my old one.” I my ‘Strom and walked over to say hi.

“Hi there, I used to have a just like that,” I with a smile as I approached Then, as I got closer, I noticed Not only was this America like my old one, it WAS my old one.

The telltale scratch occurred 5 minutes after this was taken.

I told her the story how I had traded it and missed it, when she this bombshell: “We just it in for a Thunderbird.”

I could not believe it. I had this bike for the past and three months. I had thought getting an America to replace it.

And it was, about to be placed on the floor of my favorite motorcycle

Today, my beloved 2008 America is back in my garage. It was an round trip, as I got trade-in for the America in May 2011 and paid value to buy it back yesterday; and I the Rocket at retail value in May and sold it for something less retail value this February. I don’t want to about how much money bad decision cost me, really.

But I am so that the bike is back in my

When I tested it out yesterday, it was being back with an old When I drove it home, it was it had never left. When I was the papers to buy the bike, the woman who transactions at Martin’s remarked, just can’t get away this bike, huh?” I started to well up and replied,

It’s not that. I have an connection to this bike. I a mistake and it found its way back to

So many strange coincidences had to for this bike to get reunited me: I went out yesterday shopping for a bike and ended up at Martin’s at 1PM; Frank and Holly, the who owned the America, were out riding, stopped at Martin’s, and in love with the Thunderbird ended up buying at around the time. I believe that the Blue and New England White America that I started my career with will now be in my forever. Perhaps one day one of my grandchildren-to-be inherit it…

Me and the America. May 2008, the day I bought it. August 2012, the day it back into my life. and now.

We’re both a little and have a few more miles on us, but I’m a whole lot wiser and I’m filled gratitude.
