Triumph Tiger 800 and Tiger 800 XC

One of the anticipated motorcycles of the season is the new Tiger, which are closely the Tiger 800 and the Tiger 800 XC.

The Tiger 800 is or less an on-road bike, reminiscent I think in its design of the original Ducati Multistrada. The 800 XC is a direct competitor of the very BMW F 800 GS (review) and it has rugged off-road and a 21 front wheel.

I thought the Tiger 800 was the better looking of the and probably much more It just seems to have pretense to me.

No offense to GS and other bike owners, but I’d that the percentages of these that really see off-road use is the same as the percentage of SUVs do the same. Maybe 10% if that?

So I’m biased towards use, even though I bet I on more unpaved roads many people. In any case, fun to farkle the heck out of these imagining that one day you just need to cross Death or something. I think that’s of the mystique of this type of which is hugely popular.

The Tiger 800 looks like a handler to me and sitting on it gives me nice feel of sitting in the rather than on it. I think the of the fuel tank does it.

was quite the buzz at the Triumph as they went through the routine of 30 minutes of boring statistics before they got to the of the occasion and pulled the wraps off the

They introduced the Tiger and a new Daytona 675R and said will be in Supersport racing year with a factory

By the way of an update, I sat on the BMW F 800 GS and then went across the aisle to sit on the Triumph 800. The 800XC was on a rotating stand, so I sit on that one.

But comparing the two, I was able to flat-foot it sitting on the road-biased of the Tiger, while on the F 800 GS, I could tiptoe my feet to the ground.

I a 30.5 inseam, so the F 800 GS is definitely out for me. The G 650 GS fit me though and I could nearly it, so it was comparable to the Tiger 800 in that

The Tiger 800XC off-road uses 36-spoke aluminum rim with a 21 front and 17 rear.

Back at the Triumph display, staff handed me a press with all the info but when I got to the hotel, I discovered it was printed in So I’ll have to see if I can get an English tomorrow. By the way, some have asked why we have so BMW motorcycle announcements.

The answer is first, I like BMWs. BMW is very good at providing high-quality photos to the press, makes my job easier. They have detailed descriptions of the new albeit not always in a user-friendly translation.

So whichever motorcycle makes it easier for journalists be the ones who get their info first. Makes sense, eh? manufacturers are terrible at getting the out. like Moto

Triumph isn’t bad, but certainly not near the best Manufacturers, wake up! It’s 2011 and the internet has been in use at least since 1993.

to get the old act together and develop a new marketing for the 21st Century!

OK, rant Here are some photos of the new Tiger, with apologies for the Just as the Indy show, very difficult to get good photos in the highly variable used in these shows.

you’ll get the idea I hope. I a nice video of the Tiger also, but it’s taking a long time to upload the to YouTube from the hotel, so will be posted later Enjoy!
