Overdrive is Necessary

Seen in the Ural Patrol

Cars the only motorized piece of that hold my interest. get me going as well. But, and given my penchant for classic I prefer motorcycles that are are shall we say, traditional.

rockets are great for blasting the road in a millisecond or two, but I myself gravitating toward  the upright old British, American, and bikes.

In spite of the name, I throw the Ural in with the It’s a reverse engineered of the BMW R71 from the early 1940s. The BMW is apparent in the Ural’s horizontally cylinders nested in the frame.

That cylinder arrangement back to their first the R32, and gives their better balance (or so I’ve told)  and better cooling the cylinders are sticking out in the airstream just makes sense).

The took this design as they always tend to do they decide to reverse another product, ran with it for six

Regrettably, I couldn’t get a good of the boxer engine. While is a fairly pedestrian friendly I don’t feel comfortable in the middle of the street to take a of a cylinder head.

At any rate, is an Ural Patrol. It doesn’t the fairing around the headlight or pinstripes available on other such as the limited edition or Retro. But what it does is a nice piece of kit attached to sidecar.

The “2WD” painted on the sidecar’s says it all. The Ural has two wheels.

It’s a fairly system, and the picture says it Attached to the rear wheel hub is a simple differential with a shaft running to the second There’s a small u-joint to the differential that, coupled the shock absorber next to the basically gives the sidecar suspension.

The rider can engage the at will, making this the equivalent of on-demand all wheel

Well, nearly.

Since the is designed to go off road, the second wheel seems as though it be incredibly useful. Unfortunately, never even sat on one, I say. However, Autoblog it about a year ago .

If I had the money and the to constantly ride offroad, I’d be to get an Ural. There are a number of models on their website. of which just different and option levels, including a without the sidecar. Prices from around $7,100 for the bike, to a hair under for the classy Retro.

It never ceases to amaze me I see on Savannah streets. I’ve more Volvos and Jaguars than probably exist in home countries—naturally, pictures are now I’ve seen a Russian with German genes back to World War II. I’ll be sad it’s time to leave I graduate.

There’s an eclecticism that I haven’t seen in other places when it to cars, and bikes.
