1993 Yamaha XJR 400

Believe it or the Ukraine is one of the few places on earth you’ll struggle to find an CB750, or even a XS650. Due to the regime before 1991, older Japanese bikes weren’t imported into the So when the 19 year old editor of

Artem Terekhov was approached by clothing brand Fast to build a cafe racer in with them, he decided on a XJR 400. It’s probably worth mentioning that comes from the Autonomous of Crimea in the Ukraine, where racers are few and far between. “Café are entirely absent here, so bike turns heads time we take it out for a ride” he

Artem and his Dad started the project way in July 2010 and the bike was finished in March 2011. is the build story of the bike call ‘Fast Fashion’ as by Artem.

“ The donor bike is a 1993 Yamaha XJR 400. It is with Suzuki GSX-R 600 K6 (with gixxer yokes and but with the xjr’s steering to match the headstock). Gixxer are shorter than stock the by about 7.5 cm, so the bike’s front-end is and overall silhouette gained a dynamic and streamlined look.

The stock heavy alloy were replaced with wheels from Yamaha 2004 – Excel Takasago alloy rims, shipped Greece to Crimea by my friend and Evgeny Kobzev (AKA from MotoCafe.ru, who is also involved in this project. his enthusiasm and help this can never see the light of day – even the fact that Joice in Greece and I’m in Crimea!

Front was fitted with gixxer’s brake rotor (with of in-house made adapter the was fitted on the hub to make the rotor fit into gixxer’s 4-pot tokico caliper). Overall, the unsprung weight was reduced and new are much better than XJR had.

At the rear-end there was a lot of work I’ve fitted spoked and installed two-pot brake that were originally on the front wheel (through the made adapter). Stock shocks were replaced YSS items. The subframe was modified and re-welded.

After that fitted the new seat, made from scratch. The passenger is tiny, but just enough for a girl.

The engine remained much the same, except for all the necessary components (spark filters, servicing etc.). The system is aftermarket, although I know who made it it was installed on the when I’ve bought it. The is awesome pure, juicy and way better than stock

The tank remained stock, for the additions of the new logos, exhaust and instrument panel (removed the and re-arranged positioning) was painted by my painting professionals in Moscow.”

tells us this XJR400 racer is currently for sale. “I to move to the next project” he So if you’re interested in the bike, it be yours for the special price of USD o.n.o. Bear in mind many bike parts are to get in Ukraine, so a lot of them would been shipped in from all Europe and USA.

Any locals out there interested?

at the end result, we are glad the Ukraine get the more common Japanese we see so much of. As with other European shops and some of the coming out of India, it’s inspirational for us spoilt Westerners to see can be done when you don’t a lot at your fingertips. And all this a 19 year old.

Not bad, you think?
