I’m a Proud Owner of a 2007 C3 Scooter!

Over the last I’ve been tweeting my to buy a scooter. Today, you’re at a proud owner of a 2007 C3 Scooter. The C3 is also known as the VOX in and the Giggle in Europe.

With a 49cc’s of displacement, it’s weaker than a John ride on mower.

Why a Scooter?

The to buy one didn’t come from scooters in Taipei. Far from it. people are crazy. It came me realizing that I refilled my for $65.00 in my Subaru Impreza coming back from Gas was around $1.20/L when I shot up to $1.49/L when I back.

The news the other was also talking about the of a $3.00/L gas price with stories coming up from the US. As I my tank up, I remembered that I to fill it for less than $50 than a year ago. a difference!

Because I work home, I rarely have to anywhere to be honest. My only commute is to the depot to pick up Because of all the stop and go traffic I to endure, I end up filling up once a or at least topping up every for around $30 – 40 on average. Add to that I to climb out of a hilly area, and my gas is utter ….

To be honest, my only real for a car is to come out to Richmond for Dot Com Pho because of the

The Short List…

Because I have a Class 6 Motorcycle I was limited to the growing 50cc and range of Scooters. In British if you have a full blown 5 drivers license, you can buy a scooter and it without passing the Motorcycle Basically, you’re limited to road speeds which is 50-60 km/h.

In this there are a number of Scooters from names like Yamaha and Honda, as well as and Chinese brands. I decided to with either Honda or and ditched VESPA because tend to be extremely overpriced for the that you get. However, try to that to a VESPA owner.

Not to I wanted somewhere to pull my to locally in case I had any issues and Yamaha and Honda had service very close to where I

I narrowed my search to three Honda Ruckus, Yamaha BWS and C3.

The Honda Ruckus

The Honda is the burliest of the bunch. It features post apocalyptic war machine that is not only unique but customizable. The Ruckus features a four … engine like the Yamaha C3, but is noticeably than the C3 in my test rides.

The Ruckus didn’t last in my short list because it a good bang for the buck. dealerships wanted well three grand with fees plus taxes. it has lots of modifications available for it it is an older design, but what me most was the fact that was no covered area to store stuff.

The Yamaha BWS (Big Sport) was probably the one closest to my pick. Using a two … the advantages would be more pep and a customizations to improve performance. are also marginally lower to maintain because two strokes are so The disadvantages were that the would make more which isn’t great to and lower fuel economy, but not

The BWS also had a disc front while the Ruckus and C3 used front and rear. After it over, and although I liked the a combination of a somewhat cramped and a pricing premium of $488 plus dealer fees of plus taxes), but not nearly as bad as the three grand before and dealership fees that was for on the Ruckus, led me to the Yamaha C3.

The Yamaha C3 (aka The VOX (Asia) or (Europe)

At first, I didn’t what to make of the Yamaha C3. I it didn’t look really like the Yamaha BWS, and it look burly like the To me, it looked somewhere in between. when it came to utility, the C3 had both choices beat. To be the unique styling actually on me.

I think I like it for the same I like wagons vs. sedans.

of all, the beer cooler back end stores a heckuva lot of Since my main purpose for this scooter was to replace my car for the to pick up the mail and packages, it to have storage. There is so room in here that I can not throw my helmet and lock in but I can also throw my laptop in along with some out from Tim Hortons .

Although the wasn’t as peppy as the Yamaha it was noticeably quicker than the Ruckus. The Yamaha BWS did seem to off a bit quicker, but the Yamaha C3 seemed to more torque heading up in my hill test. Since I in an area shaped like a hill climbing is important.

The BWS up 0.4 ft/lb of torque to the C3, but hey, on a every little bit counts. The at the YAMAHA Canada blog to concur with me on this during their test of the C3 in direct comparison with the BWS .

The Yamaha C3 also had the most seating position. To me, it was basically sitting on a couch. Not to mention, the C3 had the cockpit of the bunch, allowing me to out quite comfortably. It was surprising the Yamaha BWS is a two person scooter and it nearly as roomy.

I sort of the BWS seating area as always like you want off the nose. The on the other hand felt you were sitting on a chair and on top of the scooter.

Other features really set the C3 apart from the was were the security features basically say, go steal the or the BWS. The C3 features a key hole as well as a good steering built right in. If you park scooter right, it’s difficult to move it once you that lock.

Total out the door for my 2007 Yamaha C3 was CAD all in. Insurance and my swank Carbon Skid Lid were extra. I even look at the price for lid. I just knew was the one and it was the most expensive one at $125.

D’oh! Insurance ranged from $220 to $650 but I theft so it cost me $420′ish for the year including my new plates and Once you have the plates, you pay for that fee again so it will be cheaper next year.

C3 Performance

It’s a scooter. You performance? Well, to give you a preview, heading down to the to pick up my mail was pretty I could easily make it up to once the sled started to The hardest part so far was getting 0 – 30, 40 comes gradually, then the sort of happens.

The engine hasn’t broken in yet and based on I’ve heard, it seems to get in that range after miles. I did have to go up my massive to get home and unfortunately, it brought the C3 down to 15KM/h, but stuck the whole way up. In my car, I have to down to second for this

It’s not a nice hill. You can bet will be some mods!

too soon to tell on gas mileage, but have been reporting between 110 – 130 miles (someone that to metric please) on one 4.5 L tank (damn…I mix imperial and That’s about $6 bucks a Sure beats a $40 – 65 fill up week. It’s definitely a ride and the suspension does a wicked job making this feel like a couch.

Cornering seems sure even full throttle most sweeping turns. But this is just a preview. I’m I’ll have a different once I ride it more and get it out in the wet a

Stay tuned for more adventures and don’t forget to my contest this Canada Day Weekend for a chance to win either an nano or the amazing Flip Cybernetic plant . This is indeed open to anyone a mailing address that I can stuff to so enter today .
