Next Gen Yamaha R1 spied against the S1000RR
The blokes at News have spotted the Generation prototype Yamaha R1 tested at closed circuits by the Riders and to make it more they had the King of the Hill BMW along side for testing!

Early prototypes for Yamaha’s R1 superbike have been being put through their by the firm’s test riders.
Two of the were caught by our colleagues at Motor Cycle News as were pitted against the that’s become the standard-bearer for the class, BMW’s S1000RR.
Don’t be fooled by the temporary which is far from the final In fact, Yamaha appears to simply wrapped its new machines in 2008-spec R6 panels, providing wind protection and working as a disguise. But a closer look that these are no R6s.
The clue to the bike’s real is the large exhaust collector box below and behind the engine and the side-mounted end can. It’s far than the R6 exhaust collector, as a 1000cc engine instead of a 600, but it also points a sea-change in the thinking behind the development.
In the past, despite its performance and racing intentions, has always considered the R1 as a luxury while the R6 has been its more race-replica.
That’s why the smaller bike has featured a stubby side-pipe, by the YZF-M1, while the R1 has used exhausts.
Now, however, it that the mass-centralisation advantages of the exhaust and under-engine collector box won the day, and those under-tail end have been shown the
Although that might a minor alteration, it’s led to changes to the bike’s chassis. R1 uses a swingarm with hanging underneath, allied to a rear shock, in turn space for the high-mounted exhaust.
Now that’s all changed, with moved above the swingarm and the shock mounted far higher to space for the new exhaust collector
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the advantages of mass centralisation, the solution is already used on the BMW Honda’s Fireblade and Kawasaki’s It’s a layout that has used on the R6 for years, which is why the from the smaller bike so well as a disguise.

Coincidentally, during its early BMW also used Yamaha R6 to disguise the S1000RR; despite greater capacity and performance the BMW and the existing R1 have physical that are virtually identical to an R6.
At the the changes again point a more serious racing and the fact that the superbike has become so competitive – both on and in showrooms – that elegance has to a back seat to performance.
it’s the central air intake the big news. Again, that’s recognised as the most effective to put an air duct, rather than the side-mounted intakes used on the R1. And again it’s a design proven on the R6.
Although the R6 disguise is effective, are several clues that the are more than they
The bodywork has been hacked particularly the bellypan and the rearmost of the side panels, which been cut back to expose of the engine. Evidence, perhaps, this motor wouldn’t under the panels in their form, or that extra is needed.
The motor itself looks different, with new that hint at a higher-mounted – a likely result of reworking the design to create extra for the exhaust underneath.
