Courtesy of Leong Yamaha, we had the chance to both of their offerings. The XJ6 which was the first to land on our made its mark in the Malaysian back in 2010, specifically at the Kawasaki ER-6f. The model was in May 2013; with a new flasher separate seat handle and two new – White and Race Blu offered.

The on the other hand, came in January 2013.

The Diversion is half-faired while the …, named simply as XJ6, had of the plastics taken off. It is to appreciate the appearances of these two which we find lean on the function side of thing, of form. Not to say the XJ6 looks mundane, but our impression of the bike was that it had a utilitarian look; no fancy, plastic bits attached to the which is a good thing to with.

The simplicity continues on the console, which has an uncluttered backed by white LED backlighting it easy to read at any time of the The box-section swingarm is dated but interfere visually.

The Diversion we had in white, which is nice but the new Blu colour scheme on the … that got us jumping. The matte and blue combination wins the factor and makes the bike like it came out straight a spray paint shop than the factory. And if we had to say, the gets more attention traffic light stops.

Built on a lightweight tubular the simple-looking XJ6 Diversion offers ergonomics, something that be on top of the list when it comes to an everyday workhorse. The boffins at got the seat, handlebar and foot positioned accurately to provide a comfortable and commanding riding which also comes in during low-speed manouevres. riders will appreciate the position.

Both the Diversion and get a detuned 600 cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC derived from the FZ6, of its internals are revised. The mill is not a rocket due to its modest  76 hp and 60 Nm power but it has the willingness to rev high when in despite suffering from a flat power curve. The takes off from stationary sluggishly but squeeze the throttle 3,000 rpm on any gear and the bike promptly advance without any making overtaking other on the road a breezy affair.

Both bikes are built to be a all-rounder but the Diversion naturally better on open roads, it kills the wind to reach than 170 km/h despite fitted with a standard The …, wearing less bits, struggles to reach the speed on highways but rides in the traffic due to its slimmer profile.

Handling is not bad either. Although feature the same 41 mm forks at the and monocross suspension at the rear, the prevails over the Diversion it comes to corners. While the requires more effort to be put the handlebar to change direction, the is more responsive in tackling the

Due to its slightly lighter body, the flicks into turns with some help the adequate Dunlop Sportmax tyres.

The soft suspension is and does not kill your even on a long journey. It its composure during high-speed but fails to do the same when pothole-infested road comes the picture. The brakes — two 298 mm with two-piston calipers at the and a single 245 mm with single-piston disc down the rear – to be worthy when we took the up and down the infamous Genting

Only thing lacking is which should be made like other markets.

A with both machines has down to this; the XJ6 (in both and … forms) is a well-built bike that settles in the typical hustle and bustle of a big easily yet has the ability to tear up the every weekend. An excellent of attractive appearance, rider-friendly and zippy engine justifies the XJ6 as a middleweight bike. And we’d the word ‘affordable’ fits right for the RM39,500 (Diversion) and (…) price tags.
