Yamaha XJ6 Diversion F ABS: 1st test

After the XJ6 Diversion, Yamaha offers this year the XJ6 Diversion F, with F or Full Fairing for dusted here, if you want. In short, this is an XJ6 Diversion which was extended mini skirt. Nothing to molt blah after all, but it’s still a range of about a segment that has no shortage of contenders.

While this new Yamaha is indeed directly facing the Kawasaki ER-6F with a twin engine, the Suzuki GSXF 650, but it also plays in the courtyard of a phalanx of competing among the middle cars. So what are the strengths and weaknesses of this small new 2010?

Small road completely faired are not so numerous, and extend the fairing Diversion did not have cause many sleepless nights for designers of Yamaha design office. Yet they have done things. This fairing attached to the base of the Diversion is not at all “cheap” as it is sometimes found in the OMPETITION. The quality of the plastics is impeccable and very clean finish.

In addition, the overall smoothness is preserved, the new skin marrying closer to the crankcase. Nice line, Div’F makes you want to take a walk.

Aboard, we immediately find the ergonomics of the XJ6, a very natural position and an ultra compact size: the Suzuki 400 Bandit 90s should not be much more voluminous. It’s a real argument for beginners and beginners, nervous about hitting the road with a heavy and cumbersome machine. In fact, with 1.70 m, both feet on the ground poses without straining the legs.

The bike is the side stand without thinking through his weight from 222 kg fully fueled (ABS version), the controls are in your hands, no more than rolling … and Diversion F reveals a disconcerting ease of use in hand. In addition, it shines very well, so it is a “tool” in the city. The suspensions are rather flexible and fairly well damped (rear soft hair, sinking fast enough). Small holes XJ6 family still remains: we find this nice little selection, with a selector that hangs too boot.

In addition, the fairing amputates the ground clearance of a few cm Diversion: raids wholesale sidewalks should be avoided. These small defects are not too penalizing daily and Diversion F has more than one trick up his sleeve.

The engine, completely identical to that of the XJ6 family is always friendly. The flattering tone, quite hoarse for a medium capacity, just expressed in the eardrums with the short pot. Flexibility is very good and well stocked revving until the second third of the range. Torque of 5.97 DaN.m is plenty most of the time, unlike the four legged “older generation”, which hardly appréciaent recoveries in 5000 rev / min on intermediaries.

For such availability, Yamaha has been working on the injection, ignition, intake and especially the ratio. Indeed, the XJ6 take rather short.

In fact, if the engine does not lack the usual safe speeds, it gives the sensation of crunching highway despite its nearly 80 horses. 130 km / h, the tachometer displays a nice 7000 rev / min and the pot placed under the engine, so furious in his lyrical flew into town, becomes annoying limit on the highway at a steady pace. Another flaw that we would have liked not discover: the bubble, similar to the model XJ6 Diversion, is too low for a pure road.

This is allows the only criticism that can be done to the Diversion F in terms of comfort. Remains between the protection refine by drawing in the catalogs of props and engine speed supported, they all want to leave the motorway for a suitable site. And the secondary network suits very well to the Diversion F, thank you for it.

It includes the steel frame without sporting pretensions, but is doing very well in all situations. Diversion F is agile in small shoelaces, stable and healthy big curve in all circumstances, even if a duo, suspensions tend to be pumped. It still remains a small efficient motorcycle, which allows beginners to learn how to draw paths, and will appeal confirmed the technical curve users.

Braking, equipped with ABS, shows a good agreement. Of course, it’s a is an ABS “relatively cheap industrial point of view.” Understand is that its components may not be the level of what can be found in GT and sports roadsters. The brake pedal generates a lot of rebounds with the foot when the ABS is activated, for example. Ditto for the brake lever, rather soft for use on the first third of the race. However, the ABS will avoid seeing the front shirk a reflex braking on wet pavement.

It’s not bad.

Yamaha XJ6 Diversion F: First Test

Yamaha Diversion F ABS is a small homogeneous high road. It has enough quality to show endearing overnight. Alive enough to tantalize the beginning, it has the necessary resource to not bother confirmed.

Its shortcomings are reduced: protection of the weak head and a transmission to edit. And then there is the price. Sold € 7099 and € 7499 in ABS version, it costs € 300 more than the basic Diversion (excluding ABS).

This is no exaggeration, even if the protection of the lower body does not revolutionize the model provided.
