Yamaha FJR1300 Exhaust – FJR Trooper Mod

Yamaha FJR1300 Modification – FJR Trooper Mod

Here is an and inexpensive modification you can do to your FJR1300 to make the bike a little more like bike and a little less a touring bike. ( exhaust trooper mod, FJR, )

You have all probably heard the “Loud Pipes Save  I am not totally sure that I ALL the hype surrounding that but I also think being on the road can never hurt.  So I to make my ride a little on the road with out being too  I recently bought a new to me 2008 FJR 1300. It was a sweet deal only 1800 miles on it I got it, I now have over 6K on the odometer I bought it 4 months ago.

I have really enjoyed the so far, smooth power, of torque, comfortable, and I am really enjoying the wind protection for the winter  But, like all Sport bikes the FJR has a very muted  In fact, you could barely the 1300cc beast with or ear plugs.

If you have priced pipes you know how expensive are.  You can lay down a of cash on a set of exhaust pipes for the FJR1300 if you buy some Two Brothers or and Hines slip ons.

So I wanted to make the bike a louder and not break the bank I stumbled on a post over at  The guys over were discussing the “Trooper they had performed on their own and I thought it sounded like a idea.  So I went to Home and got a 1 1/2 inch Metal Hole Saw bit and reinforced cutting disks for my

The grand total me about $20.  Following the and feedback from other on the FJR forum I proceeded to cut in to my pipe and see happened.

The steps are pretty to complete the “Trooper Mod” on own Yamaha FJR exhaust:

Use the Hole Saw bit to cut the from the inside of the can. weld is holding the end of the pipe you remove in a later step.

Use the reinforced cutting disks to cut 1 1/2 inches of pipe from the of the can.  You may need a few to finish the cut as the pipe quickly them down when

Remove the small section of the once it is cut free.

If you want you can the pipe and shake out the fine from cutting or you can shoot it out the with a brisk run down the like I did.

I am really with the end result.  The is louder as you can tell from the but it won’t wake my neighbors I leave for work in the morning. thing I really like is I can not a noticeable difference in sound going down the highway.  I to own a screaming loud Harley and I did not to listen to the drone on extended again,  this mod only louder at idle and under

All in all for $20 and a little elbow it was a great addition to the bike.  It about an hour to complete and is simple if you have any experience power tools.

Thanks to all the over at FJRforum.com for the tip and to Trooper (a Texas native) for starting the  I created this video for of you who are sitting on the fence about this mod to your own bikes.  It is an task and is a cheap alternative for who want a little more from their FJR1300.
