Yamaha MT-02 and MT-OX

If you’re a fan of hotshoes sliding snarling Twins around a dirt track, you probably dig the XR1200 as much as we do. But that’s not the approach to designing a historio-moto-fantasy After all, 650cc Parallel Twins were and feared on racetracks from San to Peoria.

So in an homage to the Yamaha Italian motorcycle designer Bezzi has penned this “MT-02.” It’s his take on an machine that’s more than dirt-tracker. It uses the V-Twin motor from the XS-V1 Sakura concept at the 2007 Tokyo Motor a tube frame, 17-inch and an inverted front end.

The name? That would in a hole in the “MT” lineup, a of tough-styled roadsters in Yamaha’s model line. The MT-01 is a pushrod V-Twin that 110 ft.-lbs. of torque in a streetfighter and the MT-03 is a 660cc Single up like a supermoto. So why not a retro racer-cum-flat-tracker?

If that’s not hip enough, Oberdan sketched up an MT-02S, with a seat and racing fairing.

And if wondering where the street-legal TT are, here’s something for you: Oberdan also the MT-OX, a restyled version of the XT660X supermoto with dirt-track styling that is and more attractive than the global gratification!” Peoria we come

wanted to reply re: the MT02 … it looks fantastic and I

would consider it. The real challenge it face is

pricing given it is coming from Yamaha.

The has been available in Canada for a of years and has not

been a sales success by any but Yamaha Canada, in my opinion,

has itself to blame. I think it is a bike … torquey,

unique, equipped (brakes and suspension) but WAY in our

market. The 2009 list on an is $17,599CAD. That is a $3,600CAD

over a 2009 Monster and $1,600CAD premium over the

Monster 1100S (with Ohlins suspension). It is very for me to

justify that kind of for a Yamaha and I think the sales

show I am not alone. Thanks,

PS – I am a huge fan of your site. keep up the excellent work.

Oh I like all of those. For some no one makes anything like any of bikes. I’d rather have a twin than a V though, it be more “Yamaha” than “Harley wannabe”. These so great that there is no Yamaha (or anyone else for matter) will produce for the US. -todd

If Yamaha is willing to start orders for the MT-OX, they

have mine. looks a winner. Nick

Heck I’d buy one of while I had the chance. I used to nothing but Yamaha’s, till started with the rockets and only bikes. The last I had to come out of the Tuning fork was a TDM 850.

Now I have a Versys, not as but still sweet. Mark

it! It’s built pretty to my Cafe’ racer I built on a

500-4 in the “70′s. Only was the colors were Honda

Red and the obvious inline-4.

I love like this, I’d by one now, if would build a new

Norton and in business long enough to more then 2, I’d buy

one of them, and happen to the new Vincent Blackshadow,

the Honda V-5. Crap I all to old to ride them now even if

did build them. Michael

I buy an MT-02 right now. If does not

want to make an please tell Yamaha to

the Sakura so I can make an MT-02.

All the models shown are sweet. I like even more a version of the Aprilia 550 V-twin w/ wide-ratio transmission. The Italian is w/ a 5-speed, IED (improvised explosive reliability — unacceptable support. jimbo

Yes, those concepts great! The only thing I plead about is

price. make them affordable.

Thanks for the article on the Yamaha penned by Italian designer Bezzi. All three are STUNNING and would be wise to take If you choose to publish reader please include mine the “YES! Go for it, Yamaha!” category…

Hey, don’t show us stuff if we have zero of seeing it in America. It’s walking a starving man by a buffet letting him eat. Fred

is really sweet. I wish make a bike like they’d have a buyer for sure. Rob

Are we going to get the MT-02. or the Sakura XS-V1 Here? PLEASE.

Where do I sign up? That with or without the fairing, is ….

Makes me want to go and watch “On Any Sunday” again to when

one bike platform be used to contest almost an Grand National
