Yamaha revealed 249 cc Twin powered concept of YZF-R25.

Finally, Yamaha has revealed 249 cc Twin powered concept of YZF-R25 which has awaited for a long time. It has similar styling as on YZR-M1. It is still not sure whether the Indian version of the YZF R25 will have the same features as it was unveiled in the Tokyo.

Over years Yamaha has earned a stature for ‘developing bikes for enthusiasts’ but for the time being they have slowed down in launching new products. The last released Yamaha YZF R15 gives a strong testimony that the high capacity bikes can give a shot in India. The R15 was a huge success to Yamaha.

Yamaha’s chief rivals Honda and KTM have launched their bikes quarter-liter bike segment with Honda CBR 250R, KTM DUKE 390 and Kawasaki Ninja 250/300 . Yamaha has lost its market in the performance bike segment with launch of these bikes as every one could upgrade to the performers.

R25 Concept Engine

Yamaha YZF R25 concept has a twin cylinder engine. The twins are parallel which are hidden behind the radiator. And the two skinny header pipes in the faring can be clearly sighted which are exiting under the radiator’s bottom which further disappears under the engine. The cooling system provided to it will be liquid cooled with fuel injection technology in the fuel system. The bike derives more than just styling of YZR-M1.

The thrilling felt will be same as it is felt during the ride of YZR-M1. The company’s CEO feels that the single cylinder option for the motorcycle will have been less attractive for the concept however it had made the model cost competitive with CBR 250R.

It should be noted the this is only a concept that is its just an idea not the final form which would be presented. Which means there could be much changes in its configuration, setup, or any other this as its required.

Will India Get Twin?

It completely depends on the Yamaha’s braveness. The twin cylinder engine is very much exiting but has some cost implications. If YZF R25 went on to sale as it is, werig the twin cylinder. It would be priced around 2.8 to 3 lakhs rupees. As in the case of Ninja 300, if Kawasaki and Bajaj start manufacturing Ninja 300, not just assembling it.

Even then it would have been much costlier than the Honda CBR 250R’s manufacturing cost.

If Yamaha goes on to launch this model in India and to get it a success then it should give out outstanding performance out of its twin cylinder power plant to give sense to its high price. Higher the performance, more the exotics bits will be needed in the bike and it will increase the price further. Which means the exiting sounding twin cylinder engine of R25 is commercially not feasible. And the other competitors can deliver this

Specific Indian Engine Logic

As the rest of the world may witness the twin powered engine but the potentially enough big Indian two wheeler market may come with a cheaper single cylinder option. Making it a single cylinder may deliver power in 27-30 PS region. Which is feasible both commercially and technologically. Everyone is expecting bikes in 250 segment and this segment will be receiving a market boom within three to four years from now.

Yamaha YZR M1 Concept

It would be in the company’s profit for launching a cheaper version of the bike for the Huge Indian Market.

This version of the R25 will make the competition go very intense. Kawasaki is now very serious about the Indian market and its Ninja 300 is far more performing and it has been best in its class, therefore beating this green machine needs some strength.

The Remaining of the motorcycle

In the concept version Bike is looked complete and ready apart form the missing lights, switchgear and bits. The Akrapovic exhaust can be clearly sighted which is best in its class India might not get this. Hole in the front of fairing is expected to be fitted with headlights. It seems most of the bike seem to make it to the production in slightly toned down version which is in mass production friendly form

Yamaha has been slow to launch its 250 cc segment bike, they launched when new players have come to competition. Now the R25 has face competition with Daytona 250 TVS-BMW 250 bike and the things are not going to be easy. Yamaha should also have focused on affordable 400cc bike which has much market potential globally.
