Super Tenere review new purchase to sale after 3 and 24,000 miles

Background – been riding for 35 years and do a mile trip each On this bike I’ve to Portugal, the Amalfi Coast and the After 3 years of use I’ve to go back to Vstrom’s as I’ve had 3 and it’s a brilliant light Here are my thoughts on the XT1200

Excellent Headlights•

Excellent – I did Lake Garda, Italy to in one day [950 miles] with no

Good vibration free

Unobtrusive trouble free drive

Reasonable tank at 220+

Heritage – the vaunted Paris-Dakar heritage you a bike with spoked and a sticker with a sand on it. If you take this to the real [I’ve lived in the UAE] and the bike, you’re going to if help doesn’t come you can’t pick up a 267kg on soft sand or mud. So tracks are are as far as it goes and what all the videos show

Weight – many reviews say how the bike feels when moving. Frankly once any bike is moving it’s to keep it up. It’s low speed particularly with a pillion, may have you gingerly moving fearing a drop. This is my reason for getting rid of it

Luggage – you have established this is not an bike you might then at whether it makes a good Luggage is high up for me. The luggage is with aluminium sidings. top box nor panniers can hold a helmet. The are rectangular and if your pillion has legs they will it uncomfortable getting their to sit over the panniers.

The locks periodically shake in the housings and have to be retightened and the of attaching the luggage will you with the multiple operations compared to, say, Givi’s system. The soft inner will quickly shed the zip as they break off inside the Finally, the ignition key used to the boxes protrudes 2 inches and easily be accidentally snapped off in the I had a spare made to avoid

Residuals – I paid £14.5k for bike and got £5.6 part for a Vstrom. The value plummets than the GS it’s meant to be up

Radiator – the radiator fan blows hot air your left leg and travelling Spain in 43C brought home you don’t want to go to the desert on thing.

Insurance – I park it on the in London. Because so few people this bike insurers loath to insure me as they know how to price it. The day I bought it, the recommended insurance agent to insure it as it wasn’t on their and I finally found one company would insure me for £700.

Over 3 years I’ve got down to £500 but it’s to watch out for. BTW I have 9 no claims.

Cachet – While had this bike my pal has had a GS1200 and 1200. Nobody looks at the against those bikes. partly explains the terrible
